Franco Serblin | Handcrafted Italian Loudspeakers
Franco Serblin loudspeakers sit somewhere between high-end audio, Italian furniture, and musical instruments.
Founded around the work and philosophy of legendary Italian loudspeaker designer Franco Serblin, the company approaches speaker design differently. Rather than chasing technology simply for the sake of technology, every element—from the shape of the cabinet and selection of wood to the drivers, crossover and final voicing—is considered as part of the musical whole.
Serblin's inspiration came in part from the great tradition of Italian instrument making. Violins and lutes, their woods, strings, proportions and construction influenced the way he thought about reproducing music. That philosophy is still immediately recognizable in today's Franco Serblin loudspeakers.
Built Like Musical Instruments
Wood isn't simply a decorative finish on a Franco Serblin loudspeaker.
Models throughout the collection use carefully constructed solid-wood cabinets, complex curved forms and metal structural elements designed to control resonance while creating the distinctive appearance for which the brand is known. Accordo Goldberg, for example, uses a hand-crafted arch-shaped solid-wood enclosure, while Accordo Unica's cabinet is constructed from 32 individual solid-walnut components that undergo an extensive aging, seasoning and drying process.
The result is unmistakably Italian: elegant enough to become part of the room, but with every design decision tied back to how the speaker reproduces music.
The Franco Serblin Collection
The range extends from the compact Lignea and Accordo through the larger Accordo Goldberg, Accordo Essence and Accordo Unica, culminating in the extraordinary Ktêma.
While the designs vary considerably, they share the same underlying priorities: tonal beauty, precise soundstaging, natural musical perspective and an ability to disappear into the performance.
The Ktêma represents one of the clearest expressions of Franco Serblin's philosophy. Its name comes from the Greek expression Ktêma eis aei—“a possession forever.” Its unusual four-way architecture combines front-mounted midrange and high-frequency drivers with rear-mounted, room-interfaced low-frequency drivers, all housed within its sculptural triple-arch enclosure.
Music First
There is something refreshingly different about the philosophy behind Franco Serblin.
These aren't loudspeakers designed around a specification sheet. They are designed around the experience of listening to music.
That's also why system matching matters.
At The Grid HiFi, we can match Franco Serblin loudspeakers with the right amplification, source components, analog or digital front end, cabling and room placement to build a complete two-channel system around the way you listen.
If you're looking for a loudspeaker that combines Italian craftsmanship, distinctive design and serious high-end performance, Franco Serblin belongs on a very short list.
