VPI Avenger Plus High-End Turntable

The VPI Avenger Plus takes the highly configurable Avenger platform and adds several of VPI's most significant analog upgrades right out of the box.

Built around the Avenger's substantial three-layer acrylic/aluminum/acrylic chassis, the Avenger Plus adds the VPI Fatboy Gimbal 12-3D tonearm, Harry Weisfeld Signature Rim Drive motor assembly, Analog Drive System, and Periphery Ring Clamp.

The result is a serious step up from the standard Avenger for listeners who want greater speed control, improved record coupling, and a higher-level tonearm without moving all the way to the Avenger Reference.

Harry Weisfeld Signature Rim Drive

One of the biggest differences between the Avenger and Avenger Plus is the drive system.

The Avenger Plus uses VPI's Harry Weisfeld Signature Rim Drive motor assembly, technology derived from VPI's higher-level turntable development.

Rather than simply driving the platter with a conventional belt, the system uses a precision rim-drive assembly powered by a 300 RPM, 24-pole AC synchronous motor.

An adjustable mechanism allows the rim drive to be properly positioned against the platter for precise operation.

Analog Drive System

The Avenger Plus also includes VPI's Analog Drive System (ADS) for precise motor-speed control and fine speed adjustment.

Combining the ADS with the Rim Drive gives the Avenger Plus a considerably more sophisticated drive system than the standard Avenger and allows the user to fine-tune platter speed for optimum performance.

Fatboy Gimbal 12-3D Tonearm

The Avenger Plus steps up to VPI's Fatboy Gimbal 12-3D tonearm with Nordost Reference internal wiring.

The 12-inch arm combines VPI's 3D construction technology with a full gimbal bearing and extensive adjustability, creating a serious platform for premium moving-coil and moving-magnet cartridges.

VPI Periphery Ring Clamp

Also included is VPI's Periphery Ring Clamp.

The ring sits around the outer edge of the record to help flatten warped vinyl and improve contact between the record and platter.

For serious analog playback, this can provide a more stable surface for the cartridge to track while reducing the effects of record warps.

Three-Layer Avenger Chassis

The Avenger Plus retains the foundation that makes the Avenger platform so versatile.

Its chassis consists of three bonded layers of acrylic, aluminum and acrylic with damping material between them. Three stainless-steel corner posts provide isolation, mechanical grounding and support for the tonearm assemblies.

Like the standard Avenger, the Avenger Plus can accommodate up to three tonearms, including arms from other manufacturers and of different lengths.

That gives you the ability to build an analog system around multiple cartridges—perhaps separate stereo, mono, moving-coil or moving-magnet configurations—all on a single turntable platform.
