Trinnov Amethyst High-End Stereo Preamplifier & Room Optimizer

The Trinnov Amethyst is the company's flagship high-end stereo product, combining an audiophile preamplifier, DAC, network player, phono stage, active crossover, bass management, and Trinnov's extraordinary Optimizer loudspeaker/room optimization technology in a single component.

Designed for serious two-channel systems, Amethyst goes far beyond conventional room correction. It analyzes both the loudspeakers and their interaction with the room, addressing frequency response, phase, timing, impulse response, speaker alignment, and low-frequency behavior.

For high-end systems where the room is often the largest remaining variable, Amethyst provides an exceptionally powerful way to extract more performance from the loudspeakers you already own.

Trinnov Optimizer

At the heart of Amethyst is the Trinnov Optimizer, the same core loudspeaker/room optimization technology that has made Trinnov a reference name in professional studios and high-performance private cinemas.

Using Trinnov's proprietary 3D measurement microphone, Optimizer captures detailed information about how each loudspeaker behaves within the actual listening room.

Rather than simply applying EQ, Optimizer works in both the frequency and time domains, providing sophisticated control over amplitude response, phase, impulse response, speaker levels, delays, crossover behavior, and room interaction.

The goal isn't to change the character of a great loudspeaker. It's to allow that loudspeaker to perform more closely to its potential in the real room where you're actually listening.

64-Bit Floating-Point Processing

Amethyst uses 64-bit floating-point processing, providing enormous mathematical precision for its digital signal processing and volume control.

High-resolution sources are processed at their native sampling rates up to 192kHz without unnecessary sample-rate conversion or downsampling.

The result is a platform designed to provide the processing power required for sophisticated acoustic optimization without sacrificing the transparency expected from a reference two-channel component.

High-End Stereo Preamplifier

Amethyst isn't simply a room-correction processor placed between your preamp and amplifier.

It is designed to become the preamplifier at the center of the entire system.

With a total of 12 digital and analog sources, Amethyst can accommodate balanced and unbalanced analog components, digital sources, a turntable, and network-based music playback.

This allows a sophisticated two-channel system to be considerably simplified while gaining Trinnov's advanced optimization capabilities.

Built-In 24-Bit/192kHz DAC

Amethyst incorporates high-quality 24-bit/192kHz digital-to-analog conversion.

Digital sources can be connected through optical, coaxial, or AES3 inputs and take advantage of Amethyst's internal conversion, volume control, and Optimizer processing.

Word-clock input and output are also provided for integration with sophisticated digital systems.

Trinnov HybriD Phono Stage

Vinyl enthusiasts aren't left out.

Amethyst includes Trinnov's HybriD Phono Preamplifier, allowing a turntable to become part of the same optimized system as digital and streaming sources.

The dedicated stereo RCA input can be switched between phono and line-level operation, providing additional flexibility for analog systems.

This means the benefits of Trinnov Optimizer aren't limited to digital playback—your vinyl collection can benefit from the same loudspeaker and room optimization.

Network Streaming & Roon Ready

Amethyst also functions as a high-resolution network audio player.

It is Roon Ready, allowing music to be streamed directly to Amethyst through Roon while taking advantage of the unit's internal clock, DAC, preamplifier, and Optimizer processing.

Built-in network connectivity and Wi-Fi make Amethyst capable of becoming the complete digital front end of a modern high-performance stereo system.

Four Outputs for 2.0, 2.1, 2.2 or Bi-Amped Systems

One of Amethyst's most useful capabilities is its four-channel output architecture.

The outputs can be configured for:

  • 2.0 – Traditional stereo
  • 2.0 Bi-Amped – Active crossover and bi-amplification
  • 2.1 – Stereo plus one subwoofer
  • 2.2 Dual Mono – Stereo plus two mono subwoofers
  • 2.2 Stereo – Stereo plus stereo subwoofers

This makes Amethyst especially powerful in modern two-channel systems where subwoofers are being used to achieve deeper extension, greater dynamic capability, and smoother in-room bass response.

Intelligent Active Crossovers

Amethyst also includes a two-way intelligent active crossover engine.

For compatible loudspeaker systems, the processor can perform crossover functions digitally and use Optimizer to calibrate the individual drivers or frequency sections as part of the complete system.

This opens the door to sophisticated bi-amplified systems that would otherwise require separate external crossover hardware.

Advanced Subwoofer Integration

Adding a subwoofer to a high-end two-channel system is easy.

Integrating it properly is not.

Crossover frequency, slope, phase, delay, level, room modes, speaker response, and subwoofer placement all affect whether the subwoofer disappears into the system or sounds like a separate bass source.

Amethyst gives an experienced calibrator sophisticated control over these variables, making it an exceptional platform for properly integrating one or two subwoofers into a reference two-channel system.

Extensive Analog & Digital Connectivity

Amethyst provides extensive connectivity for both traditional and modern sources.

Balanced and unbalanced analog inputs allow high-end source components to be connected directly, while optical, coaxial, and AES3 digital inputs accommodate a wide variety of digital transports and components.

Four balanced XLR and four unbalanced RCA outputs provide the flexibility required for conventional stereo, bi-amplified, and subwoofer-equipped systems.
