Eight Centimeters of Solid Aluminum

The Orion Reference is defined by its extraordinary platter.

Machined from solid aluminum and measuring 80 mm thick, the platter is the visual and mechanical centerpiece of the turntable. Its substantial construction provides rotational inertia, helping maintain consistent movement as the stylus follows the record groove.

Transrotor specifies an aluminum-and-acrylic platter assembly, complemented by an aluminum record weight.

The sheer scale of the platter gives the Orion its distinctive proportions, while its substantial mass forms part of the turntable's approach to mechanical stability.

 

Free Magnet Drive. No Direct Contact.

The Orion Reference incorporates Transrotor's Free Magnet Drive, or FMD.

This system transfers rotational movement through magnetic coupling without direct mechanical contact between the drive and platter sections. Its purpose is to reduce the direct transmission of unwanted drive-related mechanical energy.

Transrotor developed a dedicated power supply for this architecture: the Konstant FMD.

Both the FMD bearing and Konstant FMD power supply are part of the Orion Reference's specified configuration. This is not a conventional turntable with an optional magnetic-drive upgrade; FMD is fundamental to its design.

Transparent Acrylic Meets Polished Metal

The Orion Reference combines a clear acrylic and aluminum chassis in a distinctive two-layer construction.

The transparent material reveals the turntable's mechanical architecture, while the polished metal elements give the design its substantial, architectural character.

Rather than enclosing its engineering in a traditional cabinet, Transrotor makes the platter, bearing structure, and chassis part of the visual experience.

Two Tonearms. One Reference Platform.

The Orion Reference supports a configuration with two tonearms.

That flexibility allows serious record collectors to develop different cartridge combinations without repeatedly changing cartridges on a single arm.

A second tonearm might be dedicated to mono recordings, for example, while the primary arm carries a moving-coil cartridge for stereo playback.

The manufacturer confirms dual-tonearm capability but does not identify a particular tonearm or cartridge as standard equipment on its product page. These components should be selected according to the configuration being sold.

The supplied U.S. price sheet lists the Konstant FMD power supply as included with the turntable. A dedicated Orion rack is available separately.
