Overview

Transrotor Dark Star Reference Turntable

Transrotor | Dark Star Reference

Twice the Foundation. A New Level of Analog Precision.

The Transrotor Dark Star Reference takes the unmistakable design of the original Dark Star and builds upon it—literally.

Its defining feature is a double-layer chassis constructed from polyoxymethylene (POM), a precision-engineered material selected for its mechanical stability and resonance-damping characteristics. By adding a second substantial base beneath the original design, Transrotor creates a more elaborate mechanical foundation while preserving the Dark Star's minimalist, all-black appearance.

Transrotor describes the Reference upgrade as delivering greater smoothness and a more dynamic musical presentation. Its specially developed bearing block supports the substantial platter, bringing the company's precision-engineering philosophy to every rotation.

This is a turntable that makes its statement through engineering rather than ornamentation.

Double-Chassis Construction: The Reference Difference

Transrotor | Dark Star Reference

The most significant difference between the Dark Star and Dark Star Reference is the addition of a second POM chassis layer.

Two 30 mm-thick POM base plates create a substantial double-chassis structure. This additional foundation is intended to improve mechanical isolation and provide a more stable environment for the platter and tonearm.

The Reference weighs approximately 30 kg, compared with 24 kg for the standard Dark Star, and stands 22 cm tall rather than 17 cm.

The result is a more substantial turntable that retains the clean, understated appearance of the original.

A 60 mm POM Platter Built for Consistent Rotation

The Dark Star Reference features a substantial 60 mm-thick POM platter.

Its mass provides rotational inertia, helping maintain stable rotation as the stylus tracks the record groove. The platter operates within Transrotor's specially developed bearing assembly, which is designed to support smooth, precise movement.

A matching POM-and-brass record weight is included as part of the turntable's basic equipment.

Together, the platter, bearing, and record weight form a carefully engineered playback platform designed around mechanical consistency.

Precision Belt-Drive Architecture

The Dark Star Reference uses a belt-drive system with a separately positioned motor.

This arrangement keeps the motor mechanically separated from the main chassis, helping limit the transfer of motor vibration into the platter and tonearm assembly.

The turntable can be paired with compatible Transrotor Konstant power supplies, allowing customers to select the motor-control solution appropriate for their system.

The Konstant EINS, for example, provides electronic selection between 33 and 45 rpm and independent fine-speed adjustment for both speeds.

Build the Analog System Around Your Music

The Dark Star Reference is offered as a configurable turntable platform.

Select a compatible tonearm and cartridge to suit your listening preferences, then choose the appropriate Konstant power supply to complete the drive system.

The ability to tailor these components makes the Dark Star Reference suitable for a wide range of high-performance analog systems, from carefully matched moving-magnet configurations to more ambitious moving-coil setups.

Rather than committing you to one predetermined combination, Transrotor provides a foundation around which a personalized vinyl playback system can be built.
