Overview

T+A P 3100 HV Reference Analog Preamplifier

Reference-grade, fully balanced analog preamplifier featuring T+A High Voltage technology, discrete double-mono circuitry, direct-coupled signal stages, relay-controlled volume adjustment, and extensive analog connectivity.

The T+A P 3100 HV is a flagship analog stereo preamplifier engineered to preserve the integrity of music signals with exceptional transparency, dynamic range, and precision. Developed and manufactured in Germany, it represents T+A's uncompromising approach to reference-level analog signal control.

Building on the P 3000 HV, the P 3100 HV introduces an improved DC-coupled signal path, enhanced power supplies, and refined transistor operating-point stabilization. Its fully symmetrical, discrete architecture eliminates conventional operational amplifiers and minimizes the need for overall negative feedback.

With 11 analog inputs, balanced XLR outputs, optional MM/MC phono amplification, and a frequency response extending from 0.5Hz to 300kHz, the P 3100 HV provides an exceptional foundation for high-performance two-channel audio systems.

T+A High Voltage Amplifier Technology

T+A's proprietary HV (High Voltage) technology operates the preamplifier stages at voltages reaching 100V, substantially higher than those used in conventional transistor preamplifiers.

These elevated operating voltages allow the amplification devices to function within a particularly linear portion of their operating range.

The result is exceptionally low distortion, substantial dynamic headroom, and wide-bandwidth signal reproduction.

The P 3100 HV can process signals reaching 80V peak-to-peak without distortion, demonstrating the considerable headroom of its analog circuitry.

Fully Discrete Double-Mono Architecture

The P 3100 HV employs completely separate left and right signal paths, maintaining channel independence throughout the preamplifier.

Each channel incorporates an identical discrete circuit board built around a differential cascode amplifier using hand-selected audio J-FET transistors.

Unlike conventional designs that rely on integrated operational amplifiers, the P 3100 HV achieves its linearity through precision circuit topology and carefully matched components.

This architecture delivers:

  • Total harmonic distortion below 0.001%

  • Intermodulation distortion below 0.001%

  • Channel separation exceeding 108dB

  • Frequency response extending to 300kHz

Direct-Coupled Analog Signal Path

A significant advancement over the P 3000 HV is the P 3100 HV's DC-coupled preamplifier circuitry.

T+A redesigned the circuit board to compensate for transistor temperature coefficients and stabilize operating points.

This eliminates coupling capacitors between the input stage, volume control, and output stage.

By removing these components from the primary signal path, the P 3100 HV reduces potential sources of signal alteration while maintaining exceptional thermal and electrical stability.

Precision Relay-Controlled Volume Adjustment

The P 3100 HV incorporates a high-precision relay-based volume control system designed for accurate channel tracking and low-noise operation.

Rather than relying on conventional potentiometers, its relay-controlled architecture provides repeatable level adjustment while preserving signal integrity.

This system is integrated directly into the preamplifier's discrete analog circuitry, maintaining the benefits of its DC-coupled signal path.

Eleven Analog Inputs

The P 3100 HV provides extensive connectivity for reference audio components.

  • 7 unbalanced RCA inputs

  • 4 balanced XLR inputs

  • Dedicated recorder output

  • Balanced and unbalanced preamplifier outputs

  • Headphone connection

The input architecture accommodates high-end DACs, SACD players, network streamers, external phono stages, and other analog sources.

One input can be configured for surround mode, allowing the P 3100 HV to integrate into a combined two-channel music and home theater system.

Optional MM/MC Phono Amplification

The P 3100 HV includes an expansion slot for an optional T+A phono preamplifier module.

Available moving-magnet and moving-coil configurations allow compatible turntables to connect directly to the preamplifier without requiring a separate external phono stage.

This modular architecture provides flexibility for reference vinyl playback while preserving the clean design of the main system.

The phono module is optional and should be specified separately.

Optional Analog Signal Processing

The P 3100 HV supports T+A's analog signal processing functionality, including room-related adjustments through the compatible HVEQ system.

This capability allows the preamplifier to be configured for demanding listening environments while maintaining an analog signal-processing approach.

The relevant processing hardware and configuration should be confirmed when specifying the system.

Separate Analog and Digital Power Supplies

The P 3100 HV features extensively shielded power supply sections designed to isolate sensitive analog circuits from electrical interference.

The analog power supply incorporates a substantial 115VA toroidal transformer, while the digital power supply has been strengthened and further shielded compared with the preceding model.

A total reservoir capacity of 75,000µF provides energy storage for stable operation.

Separate mains connections for the analog and control sections further reinforce the preamplifier's electrical separation.

Precision Aluminum Chassis

The P 3100 HV uses a substantial aluminum enclosure engineered for mechanical stability and electromagnetic shielding.

Its preamplifier circuit boards are housed in an independent compartment constructed from 10–15mm-thick aluminum plates, physically separated from the power supply section.

The chassis weighs approximately 61.7 pounds, reflecting its extensive mechanical construction and substantial internal power supplies.

Available finishes include:

  • Silver Lacquer 47 with Black Heatsinks

  • Titanium Lacquer 64 with Black Heatsinks
