Stewart Filmscreen Balón Edge UST 120" Fixed Frame Projection Screen – BlackHawk UST

Model: BALG3E120HUSTFLX

The Stewart Filmscreen Balón Edge UST 120" with BlackHawk UST is purpose-built for premium ultra-short-throw projection systems, combining Stewart’s minimalist fixed-frame architecture with a specialized lenticular ambient-light-rejecting surface. Unlike conventional projection materials, BlackHawk UST is engineered specifically around the steep projection angles produced by UST projectors positioned below the screen. ProjectorScreen.com

At 120 inches diagonal, this configuration delivers a dramatically larger image than most flat-panel displays while maintaining a clean, architectural installation. BlackHawk UST's lenticular structure redirects overhead ambient light away from the viewer while returning light from the UST projector toward the audience, helping maintain contrast and image saturation in rooms where complete light control isn't practical. BlackHawk UST Ambient Light Rejecting Surface

BlackHawk UST is Stewart's dedicated screen material for ultra-short-throw projection. Its lenticular optical structure is designed around the highly variable incident angles produced by UST projectors and specifically rejects light arriving from above the screen.

The surface provides 0.55 peak gain, 80% ambient light rejection, and a 170° viewing angle. Stewart and the competitor listing emphasize enhanced center-to-edge uniformity, contrast preservation, and color accuracy. For optimum performance, the UST projector should be positioned below the screen. ProjectorScreen.com

This is an important distinction from the StudioTek 130 G4 and FireHawk G5 Balón Edge models: BlackHawk UST is specifically engineered for UST projection rather than conventional long-throw projection.

120" 16:9 UST Image

This configuration provides a 120-inch diagonal image measuring 104.5 inches wide × 58.75 inches high in a native 16:9 HDTV format. Stewart lists 104.5" × 58.75" as the maximum BlackHawk UST size, making this 120-inch model the largest standard BlackHawk UST configuration in the Balón family. ProjectorScreen.com

Stewart's current QuickShip information confirms BALG3E120HUSTFLX as the 120" 16:9 Balón Edge configuration with BlackHawk UST and, importantly, specifies a Flush Mount for this particular model. Stewart FilmScreen

Engineered Specifically for Ultra Short Throw

BlackHawk UST is not simply a conventional ALR material paired with a UST projector. Its lenticular optical structure is specifically engineered around the extreme projection geometry of ultra-short-throw systems.

Light arriving from the UST projector below the screen is directed toward the viewing audience, while overhead ambient light is rejected. This allows BlackHawk UST to preserve substantially more perceived contrast in illuminated rooms than a conventional white projection surface. ProjectorScreen.com

The combination of 80% ALR and a 170° viewing angle is particularly useful in multipurpose media rooms where viewers may be spread across a wide seating area rather than positioned directly on-axis.

120 Inches Without a Traditional Projector Installation

A major advantage of this configuration is the ability to create a true 120-inch cinematic image without installing a conventional projector across the room or mounting one overhead.

When paired with an appropriate premium UST projector, the projector can sit immediately below and close to the screen. That can make Balón Edge UST particularly attractive for sophisticated living spaces, media rooms, and installations where a traditional projector location isn't desirable.

Balón Edge UST Design

The Balón platform is Stewart's progressive wraparound fixed-frame system, designed to keep the image plane within approximately 1½ inches of the wall surface. Stewart also offers optional LED lighting capability for the Balón family. Stewart FilmScreen

For this specific BlackHawk UST model, Stewart identifies the mounting system as Flush Mount, rather than the EZ Mount specified for the StudioTek 130 G4 and FireHawk G5 QuickShip models we've been listing. Stewart FilmScreen

Stewart Filmscreen at The Grid HiFi

The Grid HiFi designs complete premium projection systems around the room rather than simply matching a projector to a screen size. With ultra-short-throw projection, screen material, projector geometry, mounting height, viewing position, room lighting, and installation accuracy are particularly important.

The Grid can help pair BlackHawk UST with the appropriate premium UST projector and integrate the complete system with immersive audio, lighting, control, networking, seating, and professional installation.
