Sometimes the ideal location for a speaker isn't on the wall. And sometimes a conventional ceiling speaker simply isn't aimed where you want to listen.

The Sonus faber PC-562P solves that challenge with an angled driver configuration that directs sound toward the listening position while keeping the loudspeaker discreetly integrated into the ceiling.

Part of the Palladio Level 5 collection, the PC-562P combines a 6.5-inch midwoofer with Sonus faber's 1.1-inch Damped Apex Dome (D.A.D.) tweeter. Its design draws inspiration from the Sonetto collection, including satin aluminum trim that frames the tweeter.

The Difference Is in the Direction

The defining feature of the PC-562P is its directional design.

Traditional in-ceiling speakers typically radiate sound downward. That works well in many distributed audio applications, but it isn't always ideal when the primary listening position is several feet away from the speaker.

The PC-562P angles its drivers toward the listening area, making it particularly useful when a wall-mounted speaker isn't possible or when the room's architecture determines where a speaker can be installed.

This design provides flexibility for:

• Media rooms: Directing sound toward a seating area while preserving clean walls.

• Architectural stereo: Positioning ceiling speakers to serve a defined listening location.

• Custom home theaters: Accommodating room layouts where the appropriate channel placement calls for directional ceiling-mounted sound.

The driver orientation is fixed by the speaker's design, so its position and rotation should be planned around the seating layout before installation.

A Clean Ceiling. A Considered Interior.

The PC-562P is designed to become part of the architecture rather than compete with it.

Its included round, edgeless metal grille attaches magnetically and can be painted to coordinate with the ceiling. An optional square grille provides an alternative for rooms with more geometric design details.

Once installed, the grille conceals the angled driver assembly, allowing the speaker to blend into the room while continuing to direct sound toward the intended listening position.

This combination of discreet styling and purposeful acoustic design makes the PC-562P especially appealing in spaces where interior aesthetics matter as much as the listening experience.

 

Engineered for the Installation, Not Just the Listening Room

The PC-562P uses an infinite-baffle design, allowing it to operate within a suitably prepared ceiling cavity rather than requiring an integrated sealed enclosure.

A swing-out dog mounting system secures the speaker to appropriate plasterboard surfaces, while an optional pre-mount kit can help coordinate placement during new construction.

Its directional design does require more planning than a conventional downward-firing ceiling speaker. The installation should account for the intended listening position, ceiling framing, available depth, and the orientation of the angled drivers.

The speaker requires approximately 6.7 inches of clearance behind the mounting surface and a 9.6-inch circular cutout.

PC-562 vs. PC-562P: Which Design Fits the Room?

Both speakers use a 1.1-inch D.A.D. tweeter, a 6.5-inch midwoofer, and a recommended amplifier power range of 40–200 watts. The principal difference is their acoustic orientation and the installation space they require.

The standard PC-562 has a published mounting depth of 4.52 inches, while the directional PC-562P requires 6.70 inches. Choose the configuration based on the listening geometry and available ceiling space, rather than treating the two models as interchangeable.
