Overview
Full-Scale Sound. Italian Style. No Compromises on Space.
Flagship 3-Way Floorstanding Loudspeaker | Lumina Collection
There is something special about a loudspeaker that can fill a room with music without taking over the room itself.
The Sonus faber Lumina V is the flagship floorstanding model of the Lumina collection, bringing the company's signature craftsmanship and acoustic engineering into a sleek, contemporary design.
Behind its elegant front baffle, four drivers work together: a 29 mm Damped Apex Dome (D.A.D.) tweeter, a dedicated 150 mm midrange, and two 165 mm woofers. The result is a three-way loudspeaker engineered to reproduce delicate musical details, convincing vocals, and substantial low-frequency energy.
But the Lumina V has another trick up its sleeve. Its dedicated midrange operates inside an internal lute-shaped chamber inspired by Sonus faber's traditional cabinet designs. This helps control internal standing waves and provides a more rigid acoustic environment for the driver.
Add a down-firing bass-reflex port, a sophisticated crossover, and a cabinet finished in wood and black leather, and you have a loudspeaker that brings serious high-fidelity performance into everyday living spaces.
The Lumina V delivers the scale of a flagship floorstander with the elegance and restraint of Italian design.
Four Drivers. Three Ways. One Musical Experience.
The Lumina V uses a dedicated three-way configuration, allowing each driver to concentrate on a specific part of the frequency spectrum.
29 mm Damped Apex Dome tweeter
Sonus faber's signature D.A.D. tweeter features a soft-dome diaphragm and viscoelastic decoupling from the front baffle.
The damping arrangement helps control unwanted movement at the dome's apex, while the driver handles the upper frequencies responsible for musical detail and articulation.
From the shimmer of cymbals to the ambience surrounding a vocal performance, the tweeter reproduces the subtle information that helps a recording feel alive.
150 mm dedicated midrange
The Lumina V's midrange driver uses a paper-based diaphragm and operates inside its own internal chamber.
This separates the midrange from the pressure generated by the bass drivers, allowing it to focus on the frequencies where much of music's character resides.
Vocals, piano, guitar, and orchestral instruments all depend on convincing midrange reproduction.
Dual 165 mm woofers
Two 6.5-inch woofers provide the low-frequency foundation.
Their sandwich diaphragms combine outer layers of cellulose pulp and natural fibers with a syntactic-foam core. This construction is designed to balance stiffness and low mass for controlled bass reproduction.
With a specified frequency response extending to 38 Hz, the Lumina V provides substantial bass capability for a relatively slender floorstanding loudspeaker.
The Hidden Detail That Makes the Lumina V Different
A lute-shaped chamber inside a rectangular cabinet
Sonus faber's lute-shaped enclosures are among the brand's most recognizable design elements.
The Lumina V brings that engineering philosophy inside its contemporary rectangular cabinet.
Its dedicated midrange chamber uses a lute-inspired shape to increase structural rigidity and reduce standing waves within the driver's acoustic volume.
The benefit is a more carefully controlled environment for the midrange, without requiring the entire speaker to adopt the curved exterior of Sonus faber's traditional designs.
It's a detail you won't see from the outside—but one that demonstrates how much thought has gone into the Lumina V's construction.
A Crossover That Brings the Music Together
A sophisticated driver arrangement requires an equally thoughtful crossover.
The Lumina V incorporates Sonus faber's Hybrid IFF–Paracross crossover topology, with crossover frequencies at 260 Hz and 2,600 Hz.
This network divides the signal between the woofers, midrange, and tweeter while addressing their amplitude and phase relationships.
Sonus faber's Paracross approach positions reactive components on the negative rail of the circuit. According to the manufacturer, this arrangement helps reduce the influence of driver back electromotive force and lowers the crossover's sensitivity to radio-frequency interference.
The purpose is straightforward: allow the four drivers to behave as one coherent loudspeaker rather than separate sources of sound.
Powerful Bass. Flexible Placement.
The Lumina V features a bass-reflex port positioned at the bottom of the cabinet.
Instead of directing port output toward the rear wall, the design vents downward through the speaker's base.
This provides useful flexibility when positioning the speakers in living rooms and dedicated listening spaces, including situations where they need to sit relatively close to a rear wall.
Of course, placement still matters. Room boundaries, listening distance, and acoustics all influence the final bass response.
The Lumina V's down-firing arrangement simply gives you more freedom to find a position that balances sound quality with the realities of your room.
Iron spikes are included for floor coupling.
Italian Craftsmanship That Belongs in Your Home
Piano Black
Wenge
Walnut
Sonus faber has always treated a loudspeaker as both an acoustic instrument and an object of design.
The Lumina V continues that tradition with a multilayer wood front baffle, hand-applied black leather across the cabinet's sides and top, and carefully considered proportions.
Three finishes allow the speaker to complement different interiors:
-
Piano Black: High-gloss lacquer for a sleek, contemporary appearance.
-
Wenge: Dark wood veneer accented with contrasting maple inlays.
-
Walnut: Warm wood veneer with maple inlays for a more traditional character.
The Lumina collection is manufactured at Sonus faber's factory in Vicenza, Italy, bringing the brand's craftsmanship into a streamlined, modern design.
Build a Stereo System Worth Sitting Down For
The Lumina V is designed for listeners who want the presence and dynamic capability of a full-size loudspeaker without moving into an oversized cabinet.
Its three-way architecture, dedicated midrange, and dual woofers make it a compelling foundation for a serious two-channel system.
Pair it with a capable integrated amplifier or separate preamplifier and power amplifier, then add a quality streamer, DAC, or turntable to create a system built around your music.
With 89 dB sensitivity, a nominal impedance of 4 ohms, and a recommended amplifier range of 50–300 watts, amplifier matching deserves attention. Choose an amplifier that can comfortably drive a 4-ohm load and provide sufficient headroom for your listening preferences.
The Lumina V also features two pairs of binding posts, supporting conventional single wiring with jumpers, bi-wiring, or compatible bi-amplification configurations.
Just as Comfortable in a Home Theater
The Lumina V isn't limited to music.
Its dynamic capability and dedicated midrange make it a natural candidate for the front left and right channels in a premium home theater.
Combine a pair with a compatible Sonus faber center channel, suitable surrounds, and a properly integrated subwoofer to build a cohesive multichannel system.
For movie soundtracks, the Lumina V's dual woofers provide substantial low-frequency output, while the dedicated midrange and D.A.D. tweeter handle the dialogue, music, and effects reproduced by the front channels.
A properly configured subwoofer can extend the system's bass response further and reproduce the dedicated low-frequency effects channel.
At The Grid HiFi, we can help coordinate speaker placement, amplification, bass management, and room calibration to make the entire system work together.
