The Sonus faber Lilium is a statement of Italian craftsmanship and ambitious acoustic engineering. Part of the Reference Collection, this imposing floorstanding loudspeaker combines an intricate dual-cabinet architecture with a dedicated infra-woofer system to reproduce music with remarkable scale.

Named after the Latin word for lily, Lilium draws inspiration from the flower's elegant form. Its sculptural enclosure features curved walnut wood, supple leather, aluminum detailing, and a distinctive tempered-glass top that reveals the movement of a passive radiator.

Inside, a sophisticated 3.5-way system combines a Damped Apex Dome tweeter, dedicated midrange driver, three woofers, and a 260 mm infra-woofer. The design separates the main acoustic system from the deepest bass frequencies, allowing each section to operate within its own carefully engineered enclosure.

With bass extension down to 20 Hz, Lilium is designed to reproduce everything from intimate acoustic performances to the full scale of a symphony orchestra.

A Sculptural Masterpiece of Italian Design

Lilium's enclosure is a distinctive evolution of Sonus faber's signature curved-cabinet design.

The front cabinet features a double-curvature, lyre-inspired shape engineered to increase structural strength and manage the energy generated by the drivers. A separate rear enclosure is dedicated to infra-low frequencies, with internal reinforcement designed to minimize unwanted resonance and interference.

The contrast between fine-grained walnut at the front and soft leather at the rear makes the separation between the two acoustic structures a defining part of Lilium's appearance.

A flower-shaped tempered-glass top provides a view of the passive radiator in motion, turning an acoustic component into an elegant visual detail.

Lilium's dual-cabinet architecture addresses one of the central challenges of full-range loudspeaker design: reproducing deep bass without allowing its considerable energy to interfere with the rest of the frequency spectrum.

The main enclosure houses the tweeter, midrange driver, and three woofers. A separately reinforced rear cabinet handles infra-low frequencies.

28 mm Damped Apex Dome Tweeter

Lilium employs Sonus faber's 28 mm H28 XTR-04 extended-range soft-dome tweeter.

Its high-power neodymium motor and Damped Apex Dome (D.A.D.) Arrow Point technology are engineered to reproduce fine high-frequency information while controlling unwanted dome behavior.

180 mm Dedicated Midrange

A 180 mm M18 XTR-04 midrange driver uses a neodymium magnet system to reproduce the frequencies that give vocals and acoustic instruments much of their character.

By assigning these critical frequencies to a dedicated driver, Lilium allows the midrange to operate independently of the loudspeaker's demanding bass system.

Three 180 mm Woofers

Three 180 mm W18XTR-16 woofers provide the foundation for Lilium's conventional bass reproduction.

Their combined radiating area supports the scale and dynamic range required for large orchestral works, electronic music, and demanding recordings.

260 mm Infra-Woofer

A dedicated 260 mm SW26XT-08 infra-woofer extends Lilium's reproduction into the lowest frequencies.

Pressure Zone Interface and Deep Low Control

Lilium's infra-woofer operates using Sonus faber's Pressure Zone Interface (P.Z.I.) arrangement.

The design takes advantage of the interaction between the loudspeaker and the floor to support reproduction of the lowest frequencies.

Because every listening room responds differently to deep bass, Lilium also incorporates Deep Low Control, which allows the infra-woofer's output level to be adjusted for the environment.

This provides an additional means of integrating the speaker into a listening room, particularly where placement and room acoustics have a significant effect on low-frequency performance.

A Crossover Designed for Full-Range Performance

Lilium employs premium high-end crossover components and four crossover points: 55 Hz, 150 Hz, 200 Hz, and 3,000 Hz.

The network integrates the dedicated infra-woofer, three conventional woofers, midrange driver, and tweeter across the loudspeaker's operating range.

Six binding-post connectors provide separate connections for the mid-high, low, and sub sections, supporting flexible system configuration.

With a nominal impedance of 4 ohms and recommended amplification of 100–800 watts, Lilium is intended for a carefully matched, high-performance amplification system.
