Overview
The Pursuit of Depth.
The Sonus faber Gravis I is the most compact powered subwoofer in the Gravis collection, designed to add deeper, more authoritative bass without overwhelming smaller listening spaces.
With a long-throw 8-inch woofer, a 150-watt RMS Class AB amplifier, and a sealed enclosure with down-firing driver, Gravis I is engineered to extend the low-frequency capabilities of a stereo or home theater system while maintaining the refined aesthetic Sonus faber is known for.
Its compact footprint makes Gravis I an especially natural complement to the Sonus faber Lumina collection and smaller Sonetto bookshelf speakers, including Sonetto I and Sonetto II.
Compact Size. Serious Bass.
A subwoofer doesn't need to dominate the room to make a significant difference.
Gravis I uses a 210 mm (8-inch) very-long-throw woofer with a treated paper cone and wide rubber surround. The down-firing configuration allows the driver to work with the floor and enclosure to produce low-frequency energy while keeping the cabinet visually clean.
The sealed-box design provides a controlled acoustic environment for the driver, while the integrated Class AB amplifier delivers 150 watts RMS and 250 watts peak power.
The result is a compact subwoofer designed to add depth and weight to music, movies, and television without requiring a large cabinet.
8-Inch Very Long Throw Woofer
At the heart of Gravis I is a 210 mm / 8-inch very-long-throw woofer.
The treated paper cone and wide rubber surround are designed to allow substantial excursion while maintaining controlled movement.
The driver fires downward into the space beneath the cabinet, allowing Gravis I to produce substantial low-frequency output from a relatively compact enclosure.
Sonus faber specifies response beginning at 30 Hz at -6 dB, with the upper crossover frequency continuously adjustable according to the system and room.
High-Linearity Class AB Amplification
Gravis I incorporates its own dedicated amplifier, eliminating the need for an external power amplifier.
The integrated high-linearity Class AB amplifier delivers:
- 150 W RMS
- 250 W peak
The amplifier and driver were designed as an integrated system, allowing Sonus faber to optimize the relationship between power, enclosure volume, and driver performance.
Designed for Both Music and Home Theater
Gravis I provides multiple connection options so it can be integrated into both stereo and home theater systems.
A dedicated LFE input makes it compatible with AV processors and home theater receivers, while a conventional line input provides a straightforward connection for stereo systems.
For systems where the subwoofer needs to blend directly with the main loudspeakers, the High Level input uses a Neutrik 4-pole Speakon connection.
Independent Master and LFE volume controls allow separate calibration for music and home theater applications.
Flexible Crossover Control
The crossover frequency is continuously adjustable from 30 Hz to 120 Hz, with a 24 dB/octave slope.
A 0°/180° phase inversion switch provides additional flexibility when integrating the subwoofer with the main speakers and room.
An automatic power-on function can also be enabled or disabled.
Italian Design in a Compact Form
Gravis I doesn't look like a conventional subwoofer.
Its compact square cabinet incorporates Sonus faber's signature combination of natural materials and refined detailing. The top is finished in leather and embossed with the Sonus faber logo, while the cabinet is available in four distinct finishes.
The result is a subwoofer that can sit comfortably alongside Sonus faber loudspeakers without looking like an afterthought.
At just 13.1 × 11.2 × 12.4 inches, Gravis I is easy to integrate into smaller listening spaces while still providing meaningful low-frequency extension.
