Overview

Silent Angel Bonn NX Audiophile Ethernet Network Switch

The Silent Angel Bonn NX is a reference-grade audiophile Ethernet switch designed for high-resolution music streaming and dedicated digital audio networks. Featuring eight gold-plated Gigabit Ethernet ports, precision 25MHz clocking, advanced power regulation and a dual-layer metal chassis, the Bonn NX provides a purpose-built networking solution for demanding two-channel audio systems.

At the heart of the Bonn NX is a temperature-compensated crystal oscillator (TCXO) supported by dedicated power filtering. Its precision clocking architecture is designed to reduce timing variation and electrical interference within the switch. For systems incorporating an external master clock, a dedicated 25MHz BNC input provides an additional upgrade path.

Silent Angel combines its specialized internal power supply with multi-stage filtering, electromagnetic interference absorption and a substantial chassis constructed from galvanized steel and aluminum alloy. The Bonn NX also supports an external 12V linear power supply, allowing owners to expand their digital audio systems with compatible Silent Angel components.

Designed for Roon-based systems, high-resolution streaming services and network-attached music libraries, the Bonn NX connects music servers, network streamers, NAS devices and other Ethernet-enabled audio components within a dedicated audio network.

Key Features

  • Eight gold-plated Gigabit Ethernet ports: RJ45 connections with carefully spaced ports intended to minimize electrical interference.

  • Precision 25MHz TCXO clock: Temperature-compensated oscillator with dedicated multi-stage power filtering.

  • External master clock input: 25MHz BNC connection with an internal/external clock selector.

  • Specialized internal power supply: Silent Angel's low-ripple switching power module with dedicated AC filtering.

  • External linear power compatibility: A 12V DC input bypasses the internal power module when used with a compatible external supply.

  • Dual-layer chassis: Galvanized steel interior and thick aluminum alloy exterior provide electromagnetic shielding and vibration control.

  • Dedicated grounding terminal: Gold-plated connection for compatible external grounding systems.

  • Switchable Ethernet indicators: Turn off the network port status LEDs when desired.

  • Resonance Control Feet: Stainless-steel isolation feet designed to manage mechanical vibration.

  • Black and silver finishes: Two options for integration into premium audio systems.

Precision Clocking and Network Performance

The Bonn NX incorporates a dedicated 25MHz TCXO clock module engineered for stable network timing. Its clock circuitry includes multi-stage power filtering designed to address electrical interference across multiple frequency ranges.

Silent Angel reports network timing measurements of 369 picoseconds for the Bonn NX compared with 705 picoseconds for the conventional switches used in its comparison. These are manufacturer-reported measurements rather than a guarantee of audible improvement in every system.

For further flexibility, the Bonn NX includes a 25MHz BNC external clock input. This allows it to operate with a compatible master clock, including Silent Angel's Genesis series. An integrated selector makes it possible to switch between the internal and external clock sources.

Advanced Power Supply and Noise Management

The Bonn NX uses a specialized internal switching power supply designed for noise-sensitive audio applications. Its power architecture includes AC input filtering, dedicated regulation for the TCXO clock and a low-noise regulator for the switching circuitry.

For systems using a compatible external linear power supply, the 12V DC input bypasses the internal power module. The Bonn NX can be paired with an appropriate Silent Angel Forester power supply, providing an additional system configuration option.

The switch's substantial dual-layer chassis combines a galvanized steel interior with an aluminum alloy exterior. Electromagnetic interference absorption materials, a gold-plated grounding terminal and stainless-steel Resonance Control Feet complete its noise-management design.
