Overview

Rotel RB-1590 Stereo Power Amplifier

The Rotel RB-1590 Stereo Power Amplifier is Rotel’s high-power Class AB stereo amplifier, delivering 350 watts per channel into 8 ohms and 648 watts per channel into 4 ohms. Designed for large listening spaces and demanding loudspeakers, it combines dual Rotel-built toroidal transformers, eight British-made BHC slit-foil capacitors, true monoblock circuit topology, balanced XLR inputs, and a 120 dB signal-to-noise ratio in a massive 84-pound chassis. Rotel

Rather than simply increasing output power, Rotel gives each channel a highly independent power and signal architecture. The result is a stereo amplifier designed for systems where current delivery, dynamic headroom, loudspeaker control, and channel separation are priorities.

350 Watts Per Channel Class AB Power

The RB-1590 delivers 350 watts per channel into 8 ohms with both channels driven, with Rotel specifying 648 watts per channel into 4 ohms. It maintains total harmonic distortion below 0.03% from 20 Hz–20 kHz and intermodulation distortion below 0.03%. Rotel

A damping factor of 300 helps the amplifier maintain electrical control over loudspeaker drivers, while its 4-ohm minimum speaker impedance rating makes the RB-1590 appropriate for many large and current-demanding high-end loudspeakers. Rotel

Dual Rotel-Built Toroidal Transformers

The RB-1590's substantial power capability begins with two massive toroidal transformers custom manufactured by Rotel. Unlike a conventional stereo amplifier built around a single shared transformer, the dual-transformer architecture supports the RB-1590's highly independent left- and right-channel power supplies. Rotel

Rotel's toroidal transformers are designed for high efficiency and low stray magnetic fields, helping provide the large current reserves required by the output stage without introducing unnecessary electrical noise into sensitive audio circuitry.

Eight British-Made BHC Slit-Foil Capacitors

The power supply incorporates eight British-made BHC slit-foil capacitors selected for low loss and rapid charge/discharge characteristics. Rotel uses this large energy-storage reserve to maintain voltage and current delivery when musical dynamics or difficult loudspeaker loads place heavy demands on the amplifier. Rotel

This is particularly important in a 350-watt-per-channel amplifier, where sustained control into low-impedance loads depends on far more than the nominal output rating.

True Monoblock Circuit Topology

Internally, Rotel lays out the RB-1590 using a true monoblock design topology, maximizing separation between the left and right audio channels. Rotel

The architecture reduces interaction between channels and supports the amplifier's ability to reproduce a stable stereo image while delivering substantial output from both channels simultaneously.

Balanced XLR & RCA Inputs

The RB-1590 provides both balanced XLR and unbalanced RCA inputs, allowing it to integrate with a wide range of stereo preamplifiers, DAC/preamplifiers, and processors. Rotel

Input sensitivity is 3.5V through XLR and 2.2V through RCA, with input impedances of 100kΩ balanced and 12kΩ unbalanced. Gain is specified at 23.5 dB through XLR and 27.5 dB through RCA. Rotel

Dual Speaker Outputs

Two pairs of 5-way speaker binding posts provide robust connections for loudspeaker cabling and additional flexibility when configuring compatible systems. Rotel

The RB-1590's combination of high output, 10 Hz–100 kHz frequency response, 300 damping factor, and 120 dB signal-to-noise ratio makes it particularly well suited to high-performance loudspeakers that benefit from substantial amplifier headroom. Rotel

Protection & System Integration

For installation and system control, the RB-1590 includes 12V trigger control and a detachable IEC power connection. A dual-stage power-on relay reduces startup surge current. Rotel

Rotel also incorporates thermal, overcurrent, and over-voltage protection circuitry, providing protection for both the amplifier and connected loudspeakers under abnormal operating conditions. The 5U chassis includes rack ears for appropriate installations. Rotel

Rotel's current product page and specification sheet both confirm the 350W/ch into 8Ω and 648W/ch into 4Ω ratings. There is a minor depth discrepancy among Rotel documents—some older material lists 454 mm / 17 7/8 inches, while the current product page and newer manual list 456 mm / 18 inches. I would use 456 mm / 18 inches for the Shopify listing. Rotel
