Overview
Nordost QNET Network Switch – QRT Series
The Nordost QNET Network Switch is a purpose-built 5-port Layer 2 Ethernet switch designed specifically for high-performance digital audio systems. Unlike conventional network switches adapted for audiophile use, Nordost engineered the QNET from the ground up with a focus on low-noise operation, reduced interference, minimal jitter, and optimized high-speed audio signal transmission.
Its internal architecture uses a high-speed, multi-layer impedance-controlled layout, an ultra-low-noise oscillator, and six dedicated power supplies. Combined with physically separated Ethernet ports and a solid aluminum chassis, the QNET is designed to create a cleaner network environment for music streamers, servers, network DACs, and other digital audio components.
Key Features
- Purpose-built audiophile Ethernet switch
- Layer 2 unmanaged network switch
- 5 independent Ethernet ports
- Ports 1–3: 1000BASE-T / 100BASE-TX with auto-negotiation
- Ports 4–5: fixed 100BASE-TX full duplex, optimized for primary audio devices
- 8P8C (RJ45) Ethernet connections
- High-speed multi-layer impedance-controlled internal layout
- Ultra-low-noise, stable oscillator designed to minimize jitter and phase noise
- Six dedicated internal power supplies
- Physically separated Ethernet ports to reduce crosstalk and interference
- Durable aluminum chassis provides shielding, heat dissipation, and mechanical stability
- Includes its own DC power supply
- Upgradeable with the Nordost QSOURCE Linear Power Supply
- Compatible with the QNET Stand and Sort Kones for additional resonance control
Optimized Network Ports
The QNET uses two different types of Ethernet ports for specific applications. Ports 1, 2, and 3 support Gigabit Ethernet and are intended for connections such as your router and other general network devices. Ports 4 and 5 operate at a fixed 100 Mbps, allowing Nordost to further reduce internal noise; these ports are recommended for primary music servers, streamers, players, and external media sources.
Low-Noise Architecture
Inside the QNET, Nordost uses six dedicated power supplies to provide power to different sections of the switch while minimizing noise cross-contamination. Its low-noise master oscillator and impedance-controlled circuit layout are engineered to reduce reflections, interference, crosstalk, jitter, and phase noise.
