The AudioQuest PowerQuest 505 is a high-performance 12-outlet power conditioner and non-sacrificial surge protector designed for serious two-channel audio, home theater, and custom A/V systems. Sitting above the PowerQuest 303, the 505 adds Ultra-Linear Noise-Dissipation with both differential-mode and common-mode filtering, providing more comprehensive AC noise reduction while maintaining dedicated high-current power for amplifiers and other demanding components.

Ultra-Linear Noise-Dissipation

The PowerQuest 505 represents an important step up from the PowerQuest 303.

The 303 uses Differential-Mode filtering from 30kHz to 1GHz to address asymmetrical noise already present on the utility line or introduced back onto the AC line by connected electronics.

The 505 adds Common-Mode filtering from 30kHz to 100MHz, addressing symmetrical noise picked up by the AC Line, Neutral and Ground conductors. AudioQuest calls the resulting system Ultra-Linear Noise-Dissipation.

That distinction is one of the strongest reasons to choose the 505 over the 303—you're not simply paying for the same conditioner with a different chassis or more outlets. Both have 12 outlets; the 505 gives you the more advanced filtering architecture.

4 High-Current + 8 Ultra-Linear-Filtered Outlets

AudioQuest divides the PowerQuest 505's 12 outlets according to the type of component being powered.

The 4 High-Current outlets are designed for variable-current equipment such as power amplifiers, integrated amplifiers, powered loudspeakers, A/V receivers and powered subwoofers.

The 8 Ultra-Linear-Filtered outlets are intended for constant-current source components such as DACs, streamers, preamplifiers, turntables, televisions, projectors, disc players, computers, routers and network equipment.

This makes the PQ-505 particularly useful for a complete two-channel or home theater system where both high-current amplification and sensitive source electronics need to be powered from the same conditioner.

Non-Sacrificial Surge Protection

The PowerQuest 505 is engineered to withstand multiple 6000V / 3000A input surges without damage. AudioQuest describes this as approximately the maximum surge level that can survive passage through a typical home or office electrical panel.

Unlike conventional sacrificial surge suppressors whose protection components can deteriorate after repeated events, the PQ-505's protection system is designed for repeated operation without those components wearing out.

Extreme Voltage Shutdown

Protection extends beyond short-duration surges.

If incoming AC reaches 140VAC, the PowerQuest 505's main power relay opens in less than 0.25 seconds, disconnecting connected equipment. When incoming voltage returns to a safe operating range, the system automatically resets and restores power.

AudioQuest PQ-715 Power Cable Included

AudioQuest includes a 2-meter detachable PQ-715 AC power cable with the PowerQuest 505.

The PQ-715 uses Semi-Solid Long-Grain Copper conductors, Direction-Controlled Conductors, ZERO-Tech, and RF/ND-Tech. AudioQuest designed the cable to minimize current compression, conductor interaction and induced RF noise rather than treating the power cord as an afterthought.

The cable also terminates in a flat-to-wall 45-degree plug, which can make rack and furniture installations considerably easier.

Rack-Ready Design

The PowerQuest 505 includes 2RU rack ears, making it equally appropriate for a dedicated listening room, media room, home theater equipment rack, or professionally integrated whole-home A/V system.

Technical Specifications

AudioQuest currently lists the North American PowerQuest 505 at $849.95, and its warranty documentation specifies a five-year warranty for the PowerQuest 303/505/707.

PowerQuest 505 vs. PowerQuest 303

The two models can look very similar on paper because both provide 12 outlets, 4 High-Current outlets, 8 filtered source outlets, non-sacrificial surge protection, Extreme Voltage Shutdown, an included 2-meter power cable, and 2RU rack mounting.

The key upgrade in the PowerQuest 505 is the filtering. It adds common-mode filtration to the differential-mode filtration found in the 303, creating AudioQuest's Ultra-Linear Noise-Dissipation architecture.

For a higher-end two-channel or theater system, that makes the 505 a meaningful performance step rather than simply a more expensive version of the 303.
