The Ortofon SPU Synergy G brings modern refinements to the classic SPU moving coil cartridge. Its revised generator produces a higher 0.5 mV output, easing the gain requirements compared with lower-output SPU models while preserving the traditional SPU design.

A highly polished Nude Elliptical diamond stylus features reduced tip mass for improved tracking and a lower recommended tracking force. The cartridge also incorporates high-purity oxygen-free copper coils and a wood-based composite housing finished in glossy black.

With its integrated G-style headshell, the SPU Synergy G connects directly to compatible tonearms equipped with an SME-style bayonet connector.

What Makes the SPU Synergy G Different?

The Synergy G retains the distinctive integrated headshell and low-compliance design of the SPU family while introducing a revised generator and lighter stylus assembly.

Higher-output generator

Its 0.5 mV output is higher than the 0.2 mV output of the SPU Classic G MkII and the 0.3 mV output of the SPU Meister Silver G MkII. This can make gain matching easier, although a suitable moving coil phono stage or step-up transformer is still required.

Refined Nude Elliptical stylus

Ortofon significantly reduced stylus tip mass while retaining the Nude Elliptical profile. The Synergy G consequently uses a recommended tracking force of 3.5 g, compared with 4.0 g for the SPU Classic G MkII.

Traditional SPU construction

The ground wood and resin composite body preserves the familiar SPU form factor, with an integrated headshell that connects directly to compatible tonearms.

Compatibility & Installation

Important: The SPU Synergy G is not a standard ½-inch-mount cartridge. It requires a tonearm with a compatible SME-style bayonet connection.

Its 28 g weight and low 8 µm/mN compliance make tonearm matching and counterweight capacity important considerations. Ortofon recommends a tracking force of 3.5 grams and a load impedance of 10–50 ohms.

The 0.5 mV output requires a compatible moving coil phono stage or appropriately matched step-up transformer.
