The Ortofon MC Diamond is a reference-level moving coil cartridge engineered for precise groove tracking, exceptional detail retrieval, and controlled resonance.

At its heart is a specially polished Nude Ortofon Replicant 100 diamond stylus mounted on a solid diamond cantilever. The cartridge combines this rigid stylus assembly with an optimized magnet system, ultra-pure oxygen-free copper coils, and a titanium body manufactured using Selective Laser Melting (SLM).

A re-engineered Wide Range Damping system incorporates a proprietary rubber suspension developed with Multi-Wall Carbon Nanotube (MWCNT) technology. This advanced suspension is designed to improve damping, tracking stability, and resonance control.

Diamond Cantilever & Replicant 100 Stylus

The MC Diamond combines a solid diamond cantilever with Ortofon’s specially polished Replicant 100 stylus.

The stylus features a narrow, extended contact profile designed to follow the shape of the record groove accurately. The solid diamond cantilever provides a highly rigid connection between the stylus and generator, supporting fast, precise transmission of groove movement.

Carbon-Nanotube Suspension & Wide Range Damping

One of the MC Diamond’s defining technologies is its re-engineered suspension.

Ortofon developed a proprietary rubber compound incorporating Multi-Wall Carbon Nanotube technology for the cartridge’s Wide Range Damping system. The material is designed to improve damping characteristics, reduce unwanted resonance, and maintain stable tracking during demanding musical passages.

Selective Laser Melted Titanium Body

The cartridge body is manufactured using Ortofon’s Selective Laser Melting process, which builds the titanium structure layer by layer.

This manufacturing method allows precise control over material density and internal structure, creating a rigid housing with substantial internal damping to reduce unwanted vibration.

Compatibility & Installation

The MC Diamond uses standard ½-inch mounting and weighs 17.5 grams. Its relatively substantial mass makes tonearm compatibility and counterweight capacity important considerations.

With a low output of 0.2 mV, the cartridge requires a suitable low-output moving coil phono stage or a properly matched step-up transformer and phono preamplifier.

Ortofon recommends a tracking force of 2.6 grams and a load impedance greater than 10 ohms. Precise alignment is particularly important with the Replicant 100 stylus.
