The Ortofon 2M Black is the flagship of the original 2M moving magnet cartridge series, engineered for listeners who want to extract more detail from their vinyl records.
Its Nude Shibata diamond stylus features an extended contact area that traces the record groove with exceptional precision, retrieving fine musical information across the frequency spectrum. A high-performance motor system with split pole pins and silver-plated oxygen-free copper coil wire completes the design.
With a 5 mV output, replaceable stylus, and standard ½-inch mounting, the 2M Black brings sophisticated cartridge engineering to a wide range of high-end turntable systems.

Nude Shibata Stylus
The defining feature of the 2M Black is its Nude Shibata diamond. Its slim, highly polished profile provides an extended contact area with the groove walls, allowing it to retrieve fine details, particularly in high-frequency passages.
The stylus is replaceable, and the 2M Black stylus can also be used to upgrade a compatible 2M Bronze cartridge body.
Turntable & Phono Stage Compatibility
The standard 2M Black uses ½-inch mounting and requires a compatible tonearm and moving magnet phono stage.
Ortofon also offers separate mounting configurations for different turntable designs:

2M Black Premounted: Supplied on an SH-4 headshell for compatible S-shaped tonearms.

2M Black Verso: Designed for bottom-mount headshells.

2MR Black: Low-profile cartridge housing for turntables and tonearms with reduced cartridge-height requirements, including certain Rega models.

Where is your showroom?
We're at 6362 Alder Drive, Houston, Texas. The showroom lets you hear and compare reference-level systems in person before making any decisions. If you're considering a larger purchase or installation, it's well worth the visit.
Can I buy online without visiting the showroom?

Do you offer financing?
