DALI OPTICON 8 MK2 – High-Performance Floorstanding Speakers

Product Description

The DALI OPTICON 8 MK2 is a powerful 3½-way floorstanding loudspeaker engineered for expansive sound, deep bass and exceptional musical detail. As the largest model in the OPTICON MK2 series, it combines two dedicated 8-inch bass drivers, a 6½-inch midrange driver and DALI's signature hybrid tweeter module to deliver the scale and dynamic range demanded by large listening rooms and high-performance home theaters.

Designed and manufactured in Denmark, the OPTICON 8 MK2 incorporates DALI's patented Soft Magnetic Compound (SMC) technology, dual-flare bass reflex ports and a heavily reinforced cabinet. Its dedicated midrange driver allows vocals and instruments to be reproduced independently of the two bass drivers, while the hybrid tweeter provides extended high-frequency detail and wide dispersion.

Dual 8-Inch Bass Drivers and Dedicated Midrange

The OPTICON 8 MK2 features two dedicated 8-inch woofers and a separate 6½-inch midrange driver, each incorporating DALI's paper-pulp and wood-fibre cone technology.

The two bass drivers work with the cabinet's substantial internal volume to reproduce deep, controlled low frequencies, while the dedicated midrange driver handles the critical frequencies responsible for vocal clarity and instrumental detail.

Separating these responsibilities allows the speaker to deliver substantial bass output without asking the midrange driver to reproduce the same demanding low-frequency passages. The result is a loudspeaker suited to orchestral recordings, dynamic rock music, electronic music and large-scale movie soundtracks.

Patented DALI SMC Technology

DALI's Soft Magnetic Compound technology is central to the OPTICON 8 MK2's driver design.

Its magnetic motor system uses a large ferrite ring magnet surrounding a pole piece manufactured entirely from SMC material. This construction reduces distortion associated with magnetic hysteresis and eddy currents, particularly third-order distortion.

By reducing unwanted distortion within the driver motor system, SMC technology helps preserve low-level musical detail and supports a natural, articulate midrange presentation.

DALI Hybrid Tweeter Module

The OPTICON 8 MK2 incorporates DALI's hybrid tweeter module, combining a 29mm soft-dome tweeter with a custom 17 × 45mm planar high-frequency driver.

Both drivers are mounted on a rigid cast-aluminum faceplate designed to provide mechanical stability and control high-frequency dispersion. The soft dome delivers detailed treble reproduction, while the planar element extends the upper frequency range.

The hybrid design supports a wide, consistent listening area, making the OPTICON 8 MK2 suitable for both focused stereo listening and larger entertainment spaces where listeners may be seated across multiple positions.

Dual-Flare Bass Reflex System

The OPTICON 8 MK2 uses DALI's dual-flare bass reflex port design to extend low-frequency response and improve power handling.

The aerodynamic shape minimizes airflow turbulence at the port's entrance and exit, reducing unwanted noise during demanding bass passages. Working alongside the two dedicated 8-inch woofers, the reflex system helps the speaker reproduce low frequencies with authority and control.

With a published frequency response extending to 38Hz and a maximum sound pressure level of 112dB, the OPTICON 8 MK2 is designed to deliver substantial output in larger listening environments.

Danish Cabinet Construction

The OPTICON 8 MK2 is manufactured at DALI's production facilities in central Denmark, where cabinet fabrication, driver installation, crossover assembly and final testing are carried out.

A 25mm-thick front baffle and extensive internal bracing provide a rigid foundation for the drivers while minimizing unwanted cabinet resonance.

DALI also emphasizes consistency between stereo pairs. Each pair is built and tested by a single technician using components from the same production batch to support visual and acoustic matching.

Built for Large Listening Rooms and Premium Home Theaters

With 88.5dB sensitivity, a 4-ohm nominal impedance and a recommended amplifier power range of 40–300 watts, the OPTICON 8 MK2 is designed to partner with capable integrated amplifiers, stereo power amplifiers and premium home theater electronics.

Its dedicated bass and midrange drivers, combined with the hybrid tweeter, make it particularly well suited to larger rooms where substantial low-frequency output and clear musical detail are equally important.

Whether used in a dedicated two-channel system or as the front left and right speakers in a premium surround sound installation, the OPTICON 8 MK2 provides the output capability and refinement needed for demanding listening.
