Overview

Onkyo Icon P-80 Network Preamplifier

Available in Black and Silver
Black Manufacturer Number: P80BMDC
Silver Manufacturer Number: P80SMDC

The Onkyo Icon P-80 is a 2.2-channel network stereo preamplifier, DAC and music streamer with balanced XLR output, HDMI ARC, MM/MC phono, Wi-Fi, Bluetooth aptX HD, Roon Ready support and built-in Dirac Live Room Correction. Designed as the control center of an Onkyo Icon separates system, the P-80 pairs directly with the M-80 power amplifier or another external stereo amplifier.

At its digital core is a 32-bit/768kHz premium stereo DAC, supported by Onkyo's DIDRC distortion-reduction circuitry and a fanless, vibration-resistant chassis. Onkyo

32-Bit/768kHz DAC & DIDRC

The P-80 incorporates Onkyo's DIDRC — Dynamic Intermodulation Distortion Reduction Circuitry in both the DAC's analog filter and phono amplifier circuitry.

Its premium 32-bit/768kHz stereo DAC is designed for high-resolution digital conversion with low distortion, while the fanless thermal design eliminates cooling-fan noise from the listening environment. Onkyo

Built-In Network Music Streaming

The P-80 functions as a complete network audio source with both Wi-Fi and wired Ethernet connectivity.

Supported streaming and network platforms include:

  • Spotify Connect
  • TIDAL Connect
  • Qobuz Connect
  • Amazon Music
  • TuneIn
  • AirPlay 2
  • Chromecast
  • Roon Ready

Wireless playback also includes Bluetooth with SBC, aptX and aptX HD codec support. Onkyo

Dirac Live Room Correction

The P-80 integrates Dirac Live Room Correction Suite Stereo, bringing room optimization directly into a dedicated two-channel preamplifier.

The included Limited version provides correction from 20–500 Hz. Full-bandwidth Dirac Live is available through an optional license upgrade. Onkyo

The P-80 also supports optional Dirac Live Bass Control and provides two independent subwoofer outputs, allowing substantially more sophisticated low-frequency integration than a conventional stereo preamplifier.

MM & MC Phono Stage

A dedicated phono section supports both Moving Magnet (MM) and Moving Coil (MC) cartridges.

The MC circuit uses a discrete design specifically engineered to handle the extremely low output voltage of moving-coil cartridges. Onkyo also applies DIDRC technology within the phono circuitry. Onkyo

That allows a turntable to connect directly to the P-80 without requiring a separate external phono preamplifier.

HDMI ARC for TV Audio

HDMI ARC allows the P-80 to become the center of a high-quality two-channel music and television system.

Connect a compatible television through HDMI ARC and route TV audio through the P-80, external power amplifier and stereo loudspeakers rather than relying on the television's internal speakers or adding a separate AV receiver. Onkyo AV

Analog, Digital & Balanced Connectivity

The P-80 provides a broad connection set for both traditional and modern Hi-Fi sources:

  • 3 pairs RCA analog inputs
  • MM/MC phono input
  • HDMI ARC
  • Coaxial digital input
  • Optical digital input
  • USB-A storage playback
  • 1 pair balanced XLR preamp outputs
  • 1 pair RCA preamp outputs
  • 2 independent RCA subwoofer outputs
  • 6.3mm / 1/4" headphone output
  • 3.5mm setup microphone input
  • 12V trigger output
  • Ethernet LAN
  • Wi-Fi
  • Bluetooth

This allows the P-80 to consolidate streaming, vinyl, digital sources and television audio into one stereo control component. Onkyo AV

Fidelity IQ Auto Loudness

The P-80 also incorporates Fidelity IQ, Onkyo's automatic loudness system.

When enabled, Fidelity IQ adjusts playback according to the master volume level and parameters established for the listening environment. It operates independently from the conventional tone controls, allowing the two systems to be used together. Onkyo

Rigid, Fanless Chassis

The P-80 uses a three-piece chassis consisting of two aluminum side panels and a steel top panel. An oval-pressed chassis structure strengthens the bottom panel and helps disperse mechanical vibration.

An extruded aluminum heat sink provides passive thermal management, allowing the P-80 to operate without a cooling fan. Onkyo
