Onkyo Icon M-80 Stereo Power Amplifier

Available in Black and Silver
Black Manufacturer Number: M80BMDC
Silver Manufacturer Number: M80SMDC

The Onkyo Icon M-80 is a two-channel Class AB power amplifier rated at 130 watts per channel into 8 ohms with both channels driven and 200 watts per channel into 4 ohms. It combines Onkyo's three-stage Inverted Darlington amplification, parallel output transistors, DIDRC distortion-reduction circuitry and a high-current power supply in a dedicated stereo power amplifier.

Balanced XLR and RCA inputs, dual speaker outputs and 12V trigger control make the M-80 suitable for both traditional two-channel systems and modern separates-based installations.

Three-Stage Inverted Darlington Amplification

The M-80 uses Onkyo's three-stage Inverted Darlington Class AB amplifier topology with parallel output transistors. The circuit is engineered for low output impedance, high instantaneous current delivery and stable control of demanding loudspeaker loads.

Rated output is 130W × 2 into 8 ohms from 20 Hz–20 kHz at 0.08% THD, both channels driven, with output increasing to 200W × 2 into 4 ohms at 1 kHz.

DIDRC Distortion Reduction

Onkyo's DIDRC — Dynamic Intermodulation Distortion Reduction Circuitry is incorporated into the amplifier's driver stage. The high-slew-rate circuit is designed to reduce ultra-high-frequency noise and dynamic intermodulation distortion before the signal reaches the high-current output stage.

High-Current Power Supply

The M-80 uses a dedicated high-current power supply with custom 10,000µF capacitors and copper bus bars.

Thermal management is handled by a large extruded aluminum heat sink without a cooling fan, eliminating fan noise in critical listening environments.

Balanced XLR & RCA Inputs

The M-80 provides both balanced and unbalanced analog connectivity:

  • 1 pair balanced XLR inputs
  • 1 pair unbalanced RCA inputs
  • Speaker A/B outputs
  • 12V trigger input
  • High-grade speaker binding posts
  • Rear-panel input selection

The amplifier supports loudspeakers with a published impedance range of 4–16 ohms.

Dual Analog Power Meters

Two illuminated analog output meters dominate the M-80 front panel, providing a real-time visual representation of amplifier output.

The chassis uses aluminum side panels, a steel top panel and a 5mm aluminum front panel, creating a rigid mechanical structure designed to suppress unwanted vibration.

Dedicated Power Amplifier

The M-80 is a dedicated power amplifier, not an integrated amplifier. Source selection, volume control, streaming, digital conversion and phono amplification are handled by an external preamplifier.

It can be paired with the matching Onkyo Icon P-80 Network Preamplifier or incorporated into another stereo separates system through its balanced XLR or RCA inputs.
