The Naim NDX 2 is a high-resolution network music player designed to bring streaming services, digital music libraries and external digital sources into a premium two-channel HiFi system. Combining Naim's streaming platform with a Burr-Brown DAC, custom digital filtering and discrete analog output circuitry, it offers a dedicated digital source for listeners who want more than the convenience of an all-in-one streamer.

With support for Qobuz, TIDAL, Spotify Connect, Roon, Apple AirPlay and Chromecast built-in, the NDX 2 provides access to an extensive range of digital music. Its five-inch color display, comprehensive digital connectivity and upgradeable power-supply architecture make it a versatile component for a carefully assembled stereo system.

Burr-Brown DAC and Naim Digital Processing

At the heart of the NDX 2 is a Burr-Brown PCM1792A digital-to-analog converter, supported by Naim's custom digital filtering and discrete current-to-voltage conversion stage.

Its streaming architecture uses low-noise, high-speed LVDS signal routing, while a SHARC digital signal processor performs oversampling with 40-bit precision before audio reaches the DAC.

Rather than allowing the source device to determine digital timing, Naim's architecture places the DAC clock in control of the incoming audio stream. This approach is designed to minimize timing errors and preserve low-level musical information throughout digital conversion.

The result is a dedicated streaming source engineered around the requirements of high-performance analog playback.

High-Resolution Streaming and Music Services

The NDX 2 supports a wide selection of music services and playback technologies, including Qobuz, TIDAL, Spotify Connect, Roon Ready, Apple AirPlay, Chromecast built-in, Bluetooth aptX HD and UPnP network streaming.

It can play WAV files at up to 32-bit/384kHz, FLAC, AIFF and Apple Lossless files at up to 24-bit/384kHz, and DSD64 and DSD128. Gapless playback is supported across compatible formats, allowing albums and live recordings to play without unwanted interruptions.

Ethernet and Wi-Fi connectivity provide access to network music libraries, while front and rear USB-A ports allow playback from compatible USB storage devices. Internet radio expands the available listening options beyond personal music collections and subscription services.

Four Digital Inputs and Flexible System Integration

The NDX 2 can also serve as the DAC for additional digital audio components. Four S/PDIF inputs accommodate external sources through two optical TOSLINK connections, one coaxial RCA input and one coaxial BNC input.

For integration with an existing HiFi system, the player provides both stereo RCA and five-pin DIN analog outputs. A coaxial BNC digital output allows the NDX 2 to function as a digital transport when connected to a compatible external DAC.

This combination of analog and digital connectivity allows owners to incorporate multiple sources while maintaining a dedicated streaming component at the center of their system.

Upgradeable Power-Supply Architecture

Naim designed the NDX 2 with an integrated low-noise power supply featuring a custom toroidal transformer and separate windings for its digital and analog circuitry.

For owners seeking to develop their system further, the player supports compatible external Naim power supplies, including the XPS DR and 555 PS DR.

This upgrade path allows the NDX 2 to remain part of an evolving HiFi system without requiring owners to replace the network player itself.

Focal & Naim App and Multiroom Playback

The Focal & Naim app for iOS and Android brings streaming services, music libraries, internet radio and system controls together in one interface.

The NDX 2 also supports Naim's multiroom Party Mode, enabling synchronized playback across up to six compatible Naim streamers. Its bidirectional Zigbee remote and front-panel controls provide additional ways to manage playback.

A five-inch color display presents album artwork and track information, making the player easy to operate directly from the listening position or equipment rack.
