Overview
Aurender N50 Reference Music Server & Digital Transport
The Aurender N50 Reference Music Server is Aurender’s three-chassis digital transport, separating the server, power supply and digital audio circuitry into independent machined-aluminum enclosures. It combines OCXO precision clocking, external master-clock support, seven-stage galvanically isolated Ethernet, dedicated isolated USB Audio, dual AES/EBU, S/PDIF and optional I²S connectivity for reference-level DAC systems. Aurender Music
With PCM up to 32-bit/768kHz and native DSD1024 over USB, dual-wire AES/EBU capability, optional HDMI I²S or MSB ProISL output and two user-installable storage bays, the N50 is designed as the digital source for uncompromising high-end two-channel systems. There is no internal DAC or analog output—the N50 is purpose-built to feed an external DAC. Aurender Music
Triple-Chassis Architecture
The defining feature of the N50 is its physical separation into three components:
Server Unit — computing, library storage and network functions
Audio Unit — clocking and digital audio outputs
Power Unit — dedicated linear power for the Server and Audio sections
Separating these functions reduces electrical interaction between the processor, storage, power supply and precision digital-output circuitry. The Server and Audio units can be stacked or physically separated, with dedicated power and data umbilicals supplied by Aurender. Aurender Music
OCXO Clock with FPGA Control
The N50's digital outputs are governed by a high-stability OCXO clock with dedicated FPGA control. The OCXO controls the AES/EBU and S/PDIF outputs, targeting the timing accuracy and low jitter required by reference DAC systems. Aurender Music
Aurender also provides an external BNC clock input, allowing the N50 to synchronize to an external reference clock.
External Master & Word Clock Input
The 75Ω BNC clock input supports:
- 10MHz
- 12.8MHz
- 44.1kHz and 48kHz families
- Multiples from 1× to 512×
This makes the N50 particularly suitable for sophisticated clocked digital systems and allows integration with products such as the Aurender MC10 and MC20. Aurender Music
Dedicated Galvanically Isolated USB Audio
Aurender equips the N50 with a newly designed, fully galvanically isolated USB Audio Class 2.0 output module, physically separating the audio interface from noise generated by the server circuitry.
USB provides the N50's highest published digital resolution:
PCM: up to 32-bit/768kHz
Native DSD: up to DSD1024
DoP: up to DSD256 Aurender Music
Native DSD1024 capability is an especially important specification to retain in the Shopify listing because it distinguishes the N50 from earlier Aurender transports.
Dual AES/EBU with Dual-Wire Operation
Two AES/EBU XLR outputs can operate conventionally or in dual-wire AES/EBU mode with compatible DACs.
Single-wire S/PDIF and AES/EBU support PCM up to 32-bit/192kHz, while dual-wire AES/EBU extends PCM capability to 32-bit/384kHz.
For DSD, the conventional outputs support up to DSD64, while dual-wire AES/EBU supports DSD128 via DoP. Aurender Music
The Quick Start Guide identifies AES/EBU Output 1 as the right-channel output and Output 2 as the left-channel output when operating in dual-wire mode. Aurender Music
Optional I²S Output
The N50 provides a dedicated I²S expansion-module slot, allowing the digital interface to be configured around the connected DAC.
Aurender currently offers a choice of:
HDMI I²S module
MSB ProISL module
The I²S interface supports:
PCM: up to 768kHz
DoP: up to DSD256
Native DSD: up to DSD512 Aurender Music
This modular architecture is significant for reference systems because the N50 isn't permanently tied to a single I²S connection standard.
Complete Digital Output Suite
Beyond USB and I²S, the N50 provides an unusually comprehensive set of clock-controlled digital connections:
- 2 × AES/EBU XLR
- BNC coaxial S/PDIF
- RCA coaxial S/PDIF
- Optical/Toslink S/PDIF
- Dedicated USB Audio
- 1 × configurable I²S module slot
This makes the N50 adaptable to a wide range of reference DAC architectures rather than optimizing the server around USB alone. Aurender Music
Seven-Fold Galvanically Isolated Ethernet
Network isolation receives similar attention. Aurender specifies a seven-fold galvanically isolated Gigabit Ethernet module, designed to isolate the server from electrical noise arriving through the network connection. Aurender Music
This is a substantially more elaborate implementation than simply adding an audiophile Ethernet jack to an otherwise conventional computer platform.
Dual Supreme Audio-Grade Toroidal Transformers
The Power Unit incorporates two laboratory-selected, high-inductance Supreme audio-grade toroidal transformers.
Aurender vacuum encapsulates and epoxy fills the transformers inside polished stainless-steel enclosures for mechanical and electrical isolation. Multi-layer AC and DC filtering is then used to further suppress power-line noise before power reaches the N50's critical digital circuitry. Aurender Music
The published power architecture specifies 80W for the CPU board and 80W across four cores for the digital-output board. Aurender Music
Dual User-Installable Storage Bays
The N50 contains two 2.5-inch user-installable HDD/SSD compartments. Aurender supplies the N50 without music-library drives installed, allowing storage capacity to be configured around the owner's collection. Aurender Music
A separate 480GB NVMe SSD handles system functions and playback caching, while an Intel quad-core processor and 8GB RAM support the server platform. Aurender Music
Two rear USB 3.0 data ports provide additional connectivity for music storage and file management.
Supercapacitor UPS
An internal supercapacitor-based uninterruptible power supply allows the N50 to shut itself down safely if AC power is unexpectedly interrupted, protecting the operating system and internal storage from abrupt power loss. Aurender Music
Aurender Conductor, Streaming & Roon Ready
The N50 operates through Aurender Conductor, integrating local music libraries and network streaming into Aurender's dedicated playback environment.
Aurender currently lists native support for TIDAL, Qobuz and Spotify, and identifies the N50 as Roon Ready. Aurender Music
An MQA Core-Decoder upgrade is also available. Aurender Music
8.8-Inch IPS Display
The Server chassis carries an 8.8-inch 1920 × 480 wide IPS color LCD for album artwork, track information, playlists and operating status.
Front-panel controls provide direct access to power, display mode, play/pause and track navigation. An IR remote is also supplied. Aurender Music

N50 vs. N20
The N20 already offers serious Aurender architecture with OCXO clocking, external clock input, user-installable storage and multiple digital outputs. The N50 moves significantly beyond it through physical three-chassis isolation, a substantially more elaborate power supply, seven-fold network isolation, dual AES/EBU, modular I²S connectivity and much higher digital-resolution ceilings—including native DSD1024 over USB.
The N50 is therefore not simply a higher-spec streamer. It is designed as a reference digital transport around which the DAC, master clock, network and digital interface can be selected as a complete system. Aurender Music
