Overview

Aurender N30SA Signature Music Server & Digital Transport

The Aurender N30SA Signature Music Server is a reference-level dual-chassis digital output network transport engineered to feed an external high-end DAC. By physically separating the server, storage and processing hardware from the sensitive digital audio output circuitry, the N30SA targets the two fundamental challenges in digital playback—electrical noise and clock jitter. Aurender Music

The N30SA combines an OCXO Rev2 precision clock, dedicated isolated USB Audio, AES/EBU, BNC and RCA coaxial, optical outputs, external 10MHz/word-clock input, 8TB SSD storage, 480GB NVMe cache and double-isolated Gigabit Ethernet. There is no internal DAC or analog output; the N30SA is purpose-built as a statement digital source for reference DAC systems. Aurender Music

Dual-Chassis Architecture

The N30SA divides its critical systems between two separate machined-aluminum enclosures.

The Base Unit houses the CPU, internal music storage, system/cache SSD, network interface and primary power-supply architecture. The separate Audio Unit contains the dedicated digital audio output circuitry and precision clocking. Aurender Music

Aurender supplies separate power and data umbilical connections between the two chassis. Two cable lengths—0.5 meter and 1.5 meter—allow the components to be stacked or positioned farther apart.

This physical and electrical separation prevents the higher-noise computing and storage hardware from sharing the same enclosure as the N30SA's critical digital-output circuitry. Aurender Music

OCXO Rev2 Precision Clock

The N30SA uses Aurender's OCXO Rev2 Oven-Controlled Crystal Oscillator to govern its synchronous digital outputs.

The OCXO directly controls the:

  • AES/EBU output
  • BNC coaxial S/PDIF output
  • RCA coaxial S/PDIF output
  • Optical/Toslink S/PDIF output

This is especially important with AES/EBU and S/PDIF because timing information is transmitted with the digital audio signal. The quality of the transport's clock therefore directly affects the signal presented to the DAC. Aurender Music

External Master Clock & Word Clock Input

A 75Ω BNC clock input allows the N30SA to synchronize with a compatible external master or word clock.

Supported clock frequencies include:

10MHz
12.8MHz
44.1kHz and 48kHz families with multiples from 1× to 512×

This makes the N30SA an excellent foundation for advanced clocked digital systems using products such as the Aurender MC10 or MC20. Aurender Music

For 10MHz operation with the MC10, Aurender specifically identifies the N30SA as compatible with the clock's 75Ω 10MHz output. Aurender

Dedicated Isolated USB Audio Output

For asynchronous USB DACs, the N30SA provides Aurender's dedicated USB Audio Class 2.0 output, physically and electrically isolated from the noise-generating CPU board.

USB supports:

PCM: up to 32-bit/768kHz
Native DSD: up to DSD512
DoP: up to DSD256 Aurender Music

The USB output remains bit-perfect and does not use the N30SA's PCM upsampling.

It is also important to distinguish USB clocking from AES/EBU and S/PDIF. With asynchronous USB, the DAC controls audio timing, so an external master clock connected only to the N30SA does not influence USB transmission in the same way it affects the transport's synchronous outputs. Aurender

AES/EBU, BNC, RCA & Optical Digital Outputs

The N30SA provides a comprehensive selection of digital outputs:

1 × AES/EBU XLR
1 × BNC coaxial S/PDIF
1 × RCA coaxial S/PDIF
1 × Optical/Toslink S/PDIF
1 × Dedicated USB Audio

AES/EBU and S/PDIF support PCM up to 32-bit/192kHz and DSD64 via DoP. Aurender Music

This output flexibility makes the N30SA particularly useful when system performance is being optimized around the preferred digital interface of a specific reference DAC.

PCM Upsampling

The N30SA can optionally upsample lower-resolution PCM material to 176.4kHz or 192kHz before transmission through its S/PDIF and AES/EBU outputs.

Upsampling applies only to those synchronous digital outputs. The dedicated USB Audio output remains bit-perfect without DSP processing. Aurender Music

FPGA DSD-to-PCM Conversion

For DACs that accept DSD through USB but not through their AES/EBU or S/PDIF inputs, Aurender incorporates a high-quality FPGA-based DSD-to-PCM conversion engine.

Rather than relying on generic software transcoding, Aurender performs the conversion through FPGA processing with extensive filtering, allowing DSD libraries to remain accessible when the preferred connection to the DAC is AES/EBU or S/PDIF. Aurender Music

8TB SSD Storage + Expansion Bay

Unlike the N20 and N50, which are supplied with empty user-configurable storage bays, the N30SA includes a factory-installed 8TB SSD.

A second 2.5-inch user-installable storage compartment provides room for additional library capacity. Aurender Music

The operating system and playback cache reside on a separate 480GB NVMe SSD. Aurender's caching architecture transfers music to solid-state cache for playback, minimizing activity from the primary library storage while music is playing.

Intel Quad-Core Processing & 8GB RAM

The N30SA uses an Intel low-power quad-core processor with 8GB RAM.

Aurender intentionally uses efficient processing hardware rather than maximizing CPU performance. A music server requires sufficient processing capacity for library management, streaming and playback, but excessive processor power also increases electrical activity, heat and noise inside the source component. Aurender Music

Hybrid Linear Power Supply

The N30SA employs Aurender's specialized hybrid power-supply architecture.

A pure DC supply feeds the sensitive digital audio output board, while a separate linear supply chain powers the non-audio computing and server sections. Aurender specifies 1 × 50W supply for the CPU and 2 × 35W supplies across four cores for the digital output board. Aurender Music

An integrated supercapacitor UPS provides controlled shutdown protection during unexpected power loss.

Double-Isolated Gigabit Ethernet

The N30SA's double-isolated Gigabit Ethernet port uses two transformer stages to reduce electrical noise entering through the network connection without intentionally limiting network bandwidth. Aurender Music

Two rear USB 3.0 data ports provide connectivity for external music storage and compatible control accessories. These data ports are separate from the N30SA's dedicated USB Audio output.

Aurender Conductor, Streaming & Roon Ready

The N30SA operates through Aurender Conductor, integrating streaming services, locally stored music, USB storage and NAS libraries into Aurender's dedicated playback environment.

Integrated services include TIDAL, Qobuz, Internet Radio, Spotify Connect and AirPlay. Aurender also currently identifies the N30SA as Roon Ready, and an MQA Core-Decoder upgrade is available. Aurender Music

Critical Listening Mode can disable the front-panel display, buttons and nonessential background computing activity during playback.

8.8-Inch IPS Display

The Base Unit incorporates an 8.8-inch 1920 × 480 wide IPS color LCD, displaying album artwork, artist and track information and system status.

Both chassis use substantial machined-aluminum construction, maintaining the physical isolation and mechanical rigidity expected from Aurender's Signature platform. Aurender Music

N30SA vs. N20

The N20 shares several important technologies with the N30SA, including OCXO-controlled AES/EBU and S/PDIF outputs, external clock support, FPGA processing and Aurender's hybrid power-supply concept. Aurender itself describes the N20 as carrying much of the flagship N30SA hardware philosophy into a single chassis. Aurender Music

The N30SA takes the architecture further by physically separating the noise-producing server hardware from the audio output circuitry, while also supplying 8TB of SSD storage as standard.

For systems at this level, that distinction matters: the N30SA isn't simply an N20 with more storage. Its dual-chassis isolation architecture is fundamental to the design.
