Overview

Aurender N150 Essential Music Server & Digital Transport

The Aurender N150 Essential Music Server is the most streamlined entry into Aurender’s dedicated digital transport lineup. Designed specifically for use with an external USB DAC, the N150 combines an isolated USB Audio output, linear power supply, 240GB NVMe playback cache, user-installable internal music storage, double-isolated Gigabit Ethernet and Aurender Conductor control in a compact machined-aluminum chassis. Aurender Music

The N150 supports PCM up to 32-bit/768kHz, native DSD512 and DSD256 via DoP. There is no internal DAC, analog output, S/PDIF or AES/EBU—the N150 is intentionally optimized around one high-performance digital connection: USB Audio Class 2.0. Aurender Music

Dedicated Isolated USB Audio Output

Aurender designed the N150 around a dedicated proprietary USB Audio Class 2.0 output for connection to compatible asynchronous USB DACs.

The USB audio interface is physically and electrically isolated from the N150's noise-generating CPU circuitry, reducing the transfer of electrical noise between the music server and DAC. Aurender Music

Supported USB resolution reaches:

PCM: up to 32-bit/768kHz
Native DSD: up to DSD512
DoP: up to DSD256 Aurender Music

For a system built exclusively around USB, this focused architecture eliminates digital interfaces and circuitry that would otherwise go unused.

TCXO Precision Clocking

The N150 uses a TCXO audio word clock as part of its dedicated digital playback architecture. Aurender Music

Unlike higher Aurender transports such as the N20 and N30SA, the N150 does not include an OCXO-controlled S/PDIF/AES output board or external master-clock input. Its design is centered on high-performance asynchronous USB transmission to a compatible DAC.

Full Linear Power Supply

Despite being Aurender's most accessible digital-output server, the N150 retains a fully linear power supply rather than using a conventional external switching supply.

Aurender specifies a 50W CPU power supply, supporting its low-power computing architecture while maintaining a low-noise environment for digital playback. Aurender Music

Supercapacitor UPS

A built-in supercapacitor-based uninterruptible power supply protects the N150 during an unexpected AC power interruption.

Rather than allowing the server to lose power immediately, the UPS circuitry provides enough reserve energy for a controlled shutdown, helping protect the operating system and installed music storage. Aurender Music

240GB NVMe Cache-Based Playback

At the center of Aurender's server architecture is cache-based playback.

The N150 incorporates a dedicated 240GB NVMe SSD for its operating system and playback cache. Aurender caches music in solid-state memory for playback rather than continuously reading directly from the library drive. Aurender Music

This approach reduces storage-drive activity and unnecessary computing processes during listening.

User-Installable Internal Music Storage

The N150 provides one rear-accessible 2.5-inch HDD/SSD compartment for local music-library storage.

No library drive is installed as standard. Owners who maintain a local digital collection can add an appropriate SSD or HDD, while listeners who primarily use streaming services can simply leave the bay empty. Aurender Music

This makes the N150 equally suitable for a streaming-only system or a combined streaming and locally stored high-resolution music library.

Intel Low-Power Processor & 8GB RAM

The N150 uses an Intel low-power dual-core processor with 8GB RAM. Aurender Music

Aurender intentionally uses efficient computing hardware rather than excessive processing power. Music playback and library management require sufficient processing performance, but additional CPU activity also increases power consumption, heat and electrical noise.

Double-Isolated Gigabit Ethernet

Network connectivity is provided by a double-isolated Gigabit Ethernet port.

Aurender uses two transformer stages in the Ethernet circuit to filter network-borne electrical noise while maintaining Gigabit network performance. Aurender Music

The N150 requires a wired Ethernet connection to communicate with the local network and Aurender Conductor control device.

Dual USB 3.0 Data Ports

Two rear USB 3.0 data ports can be used for importing or playing music from external USB storage and connecting certain compatible control accessories. Aurender

These should not be confused with the separate dedicated USB Audio output. Aurender specifically recommends using the isolated USB Audio connection—not the USB 3.0 data ports—to connect the N150 to a DAC. Aurender

Aurender Conductor & Integrated Streaming

The N150 operates through Aurender Conductor, Aurender's dedicated music-management and playback platform.

Conductor integrates local music libraries, NAS storage and streaming within a unified interface. Aurender currently lists integrated access to TIDAL, Qobuz and Internet Radio, plus Spotify Connect and AirPlay. Aurender Music

The N150 is also currently identified by Aurender as Roon Ready, while an MQA Core-Decoder upgrade is available. Aurender Music

Critical Listening Mode

Critical Listening Mode disables the front-panel screen, buttons and background computing activity that isn't required for music playback.

This reduces unnecessary system activity during serious listening sessions and is a feature shared across Aurender's current music-server platform. Aurender Music

3-Inch AMOLED Display

The N150's compact front panel features a 3-inch AMOLED display for current track and playback information.

Front-panel controls provide direct access to power, display modes, play/pause and track navigation, while more comprehensive music browsing and system management are handled through Aurender Conductor. Aurender Music

Aurender's current specifications list the physical dimensions as “8.5″W × 13.9″W × 2.5″H”; the second “W” is evidently a labeling typo on the manufacturer page. For the Shopify specification table, I would use 8.5"W × 13.9"D × 2.5"H, consistent with the physical form factor. Aurender Music

Purpose-Built for a USB DAC

The N150 is important because Aurender has not tried to turn it into an everything-in-one streamer. It has no internal DAC, analog stage, HDMI, Bluetooth, S/PDIF or AES/EBU outputs. Instead, its architecture concentrates on the functions needed to serve a high-performance asynchronous USB DAC: clean power, isolated networking, dedicated USB Audio, cache-based playback and tightly integrated server software. Aurender Music

For an owner who already has a serious USB DAC, that simplicity can make the N150 a more logical purchase than paying for additional digital interfaces that will never be used.

N150 vs. N200

Both models are dedicated digital transports with isolated USB Audio, internal storage capability, linear power, NVMe caching and double-isolated Ethernet.

The N150 uses a compact half-width chassis, one storage bay, an Intel dual-core processor, 3-inch AMOLED display and USB as its only digital audio output.

The N200 moves to a larger chassis with a 6.9-inch color display, Intel quad-core processor, two internal storage bays and adds an RCA coaxial S/PDIF output. The N200 is therefore the stronger platform for larger local libraries and systems requiring coaxial digital connectivity, while the N150 retains the essential Aurender architecture for a USB-only DAC system. Aurender N150 at The Grid HiFi

The Aurender N150 is an excellent entry point into a serious high-end digital front end when the system already uses a capable USB DAC. Its 32-bit/768kHz and DSD512 USB output, linear power supply, NVMe caching, internal storage capability and isolated Ethernet architecture deliver the core technologies behind Aurender's dedicated music servers without unnecessary connectivity.

The Grid HiFi can match the N150 with the appropriate DAC, USB cable, network infrastructure, amplification and loudspeakers, or configure internal storage for a locally hosted high-resolution music library.
