The Musical Fidelity Nu-Vista PRE is a fully balanced, discrete Class A line preamplifier designed to sit at the center of a reference two-channel system.

Its architecture combines 6S51N Nuvistor tubes, a precision-matched stepped volume attenuator, substantial output stages, and a dedicated external power supply. The result is a preamplifier engineered to handle delicate source signals while providing the drive needed to connect confidently with high-performance power amplifiers.

With twelve line-level inputs, balanced and single-ended outputs, and a separate power supply chassis, the Nu-Vista PRE is built for systems where flexibility and engineering matter equally.

Fully Balanced, Discrete Class A Design

Musical Fidelity developed the Nu-Vista PRE around a fully balanced circuit architecture derived from the company's Nu-Vista 800 design.

Its 6S51N Nuvistors operate in a discrete Class A buffer stage, while a balanced, precision-matched stepped attenuator controls volume. This approach is intended to preserve accurate stereo imaging across the volume range.

The output stages use a pair of amplifier circuits equivalent to 50-watt power amplifiers. Operating in Class A for preamplifier duties, they provide substantial line-driving capability for demanding system configurations.

Twelve Inputs. One System.

The Nu-Vista PRE offers six RCA and six balanced XLR line-level inputs, accommodating an extensive collection of analog and digital source components.

A network streamer, DAC, disc player, external phono stage, and other sources can remain connected without compromising the flexibility of the system.

Both fixed and variable outputs are provided in RCA and XLR formats. The fixed outputs support applications requiring a consistent line-level signal, while the variable outputs connect to your power amplifiers.

A Dedicated External Power Supply

The Nu-Vista PRE includes its own substantial external power supply, housed in a separate chassis.

Generous supply capacitance and additional chokes are employed to reduce power-supply ripple and current spikes. Separating the power supply from the audio circuitry is a fundamental part of the PRE's design—not an optional upgrade.

The preamplifier and PSU weigh 22 kg and 25 kg respectively, making this a substantial two-component installation.

Built Around Nuvistor Technology

Nuvistors are miniature vacuum tubes originally developed in the 1950s. Their design offers low noise, low microphony, compact dimensions, and high reliability.

Musical Fidelity has made Nuvistor technology a defining feature of its Nu-Vista components, combining these tubes with modern solid-state circuitry.

In the PRE, the Nuvistors form part of the balanced input buffer, bringing this distinctive technology into a contemporary reference preamplifier.

The Nu-Vista PRE is supplied with its dedicated external PSU, remote control, batteries, mains lead, interconnecting power and control cables, and foot accessories. The manufacturer specifies two 1-meter five-pin XLR power cables and one 1-meter four-pin XLR control cable for the connection between the units.
