Overview
Musical Fidelity M8xTT Turntable
A Return to Serious Analog Engineering
The Musical Fidelity M8xTT brings one of the brand's most distinctive turntable designs into a new generation.
Its origins trace back to the Musical Fidelity M1, developed in 2002 around a straightforward idea: combine the substantial mass of metal alloys with the low-resonance properties of acrylic, while mechanically separating the motor from the tonearm and platter.
The M8xTT advances that philosophy with a dual-chassis construction, a substantial 10 kg aluminum platter, magnetically supported feet, and a newly developed 10-inch tonearm.
At 31.5 kg, this is a substantial analog component. Its engineering is focused on controlling resonance, maintaining rotational stability, and giving the cartridge a mechanically stable platform from which to retrieve the information in the record groove.
Dual-Chassis Construction
The M8xTT uses two acrylic plinths separated by Teflon spacers and connected through four substantial aluminum feet.
The motor is mounted on specialized foam within the lower acrylic plinth, helping decouple it from the platter and tonearm.
This layered construction is fundamental to the turntable's design. Rather than relying on mass alone, Musical Fidelity combines substantial materials with mechanical separation and damping to manage unwanted vibration.
A 10 kg Aluminum Platter
The M8xTT features a two-layer aluminum sandwich platter weighing 10 kg.
Aluminum inserts increase its flywheel effect, while TPE damping is incorporated into both platter layers to address resonance.
A silicone belt connects the motor to the platter, and electronic speed control provides convenient switching between 33⅓ and 45 rpm.
The inverted platter bearing uses a ceramic ball tip, completing a substantial drive assembly designed for consistent rotation.
A Purpose-Built 10-Inch Tonearm
Musical Fidelity developed a new 10-inch tonearm specifically for the M8xTT.
Its construction combines a transparent acrylic bearing ring with a tapered aluminum arm tube. Both vertical tracking angle (VTA) and azimuth are adjustable, providing flexibility for cartridge installation and setup.
Two TPE-damped counterweights accommodate cartridges weighing between 6 and 20 grams.
With an effective mass of 17 grams and an effective length of 254 mm, the tonearm provides a defined starting point for selecting a compatible cartridge.
Balanced and Single-Ended Connections
The M8xTT offers both conventional RCA and balanced XLR phono outputs.
This is a particularly useful feature when pairing the turntable with a phono preamplifier that supports balanced inputs. It gives system designers greater flexibility in choosing the connection appropriate to the associated electronics.
A semi-balanced phono interconnect with gold-plated connectors is included for initial system connection.
Magnetic Support and Precise Leveling
Four heavyweight aluminum feet incorporate TPE damping and magnetic support.
The feet are height-adjustable, allowing the turntable to be leveled by rotating their central sections.
Combined with the dual acrylic plinths, this support system is an integral part of the M8xTT's mechanical design.

Experience the Musical Fidelity M8xTT at The Grid HiFi
The M8xTT provides an impressive foundation for a dedicated vinyl playback system, but the cartridge and phono preamplifier are just as important to the final result.
At The Grid HiFi in Houston, we can help select a cartridge suited to the M8xTT's 10-inch tonearm, match it with an appropriate phono stage, and determine whether RCA or balanced XLR connections make sense for your system.
We can also assist with cartridge alignment, VTA, azimuth, tracking force, leveling, and placement.
Whether you're adding a serious turntable to an existing two-channel system or building an entirely new analog setup, we'll help configure the M8xTT around your records, equipment, and listening preferences.
