The Michell TecnoDec brings the engineering principles of the iconic GyroDec to a minimalist, unsuspended belt-drive turntable. Designed for listeners entering the world of high-end vinyl playback, it combines an impedance-matched platter, precision inverted bearing, independent motor and Sorbothane isolation in a streamlined design.

Rather than relying on elaborate suspension systems, the TecnoDec uses carefully selected materials and mechanical isolation to control unwanted vibration. Its freestanding motor is physically separated from the main chassis, while the platter and bearing are engineered to provide a stable, low-noise foundation for accurate record reproduction.

The result is a purpose-built British turntable that prioritizes the mechanical fundamentals of analog playback, making it suitable for both a first serious HiFi system and an established two-channel setup.

GyroDec-Inspired Engineering

The TecnoDec incorporates several technologies developed for Michell's celebrated GyroDec, including its inverted oil-circulating bearing, vibration-damping platter and independently housed motor.

These elements work together to address three important aspects of vinyl playback: maintaining consistent platter rotation, reducing mechanical noise and limiting the transmission of unwanted vibration to the stylus.

Its unsuspended construction offers a straightforward approach to installation while retaining the precision engineering associated with Michell's more elaborate reference turntables.

Impedance-Matched Platter

The TecnoDec features an impedance-matched platter manufactured from a material selected for its vibration-damping characteristics and acoustic similarity to vinyl.

This approach is intended to minimize unwanted resonances at the interface between the record and platter, helping the stylus retrieve musical information without additional mechanical interference.

The platter works in conjunction with Michell's precision bearing to provide a stable rotating platform for accurate analog reproduction.

Inverted Oil-Circulating Main Bearing

At the heart of the TecnoDec is Michell's inverted main bearing, a design that positions the point of rotation at the top of the bearing assembly rather than the bottom.

A modified Archimedean screw machined into the bearing's internal bore circulates lubricant during operation. Oil is drawn from a reservoir at the base of the bearing toward the thrust ball at the top before returning through a dedicated passage in the bearing spindle.

This continuous circulation lubricates the bearing's precision surfaces as the platter rotates, reducing the potential for mechanical noise and vibration.

Independently Housed Motor

The TecnoDec uses a freestanding motor unit machined from a solid billet of aircraft-grade aluminum.

By physically separating the motor from the main turntable assembly, Michell minimizes the direct transmission of motor-generated vibration to the platter and tonearm. During operation, the drive belt provides the only mechanical connection between the motor and turntable.

This arrangement is an important part of the TecnoDec's vibration-control strategy and reflects the engineering approach used throughout Michell's turntable range.

Sorbothane Vibration Isolation

The TecnoDec incorporates pure Sorbothane inserts in its support feet to help isolate the turntable from vibration transmitted through the supporting furniture.

This damping system complements the independently housed motor and unsuspended chassis, providing a practical solution for installations on suitable HiFi racks and dedicated turntable furniture.

Together, these features create a mechanically controlled environment for the platter, bearing and tonearm without requiring a conventional spring suspension.
