The Michell Gyro Reference Turntable represents a major evolution of one of the most recognizable designs in high-end analog audio. Retaining the distinctive suspended chassis and exposed brass platter weights that have defined the Gyro since the 1980s, this redesigned model introduces substantial improvements to its chassis, suspension, bearing and motor system.

At its foundation is a precision-machined, 19mm aerospace-grade aluminum chassis, replacing the cast aluminum construction of previous generations. A redesigned inverted bearing, retuned suspension and independently housed motor work together to isolate the stylus from unwanted vibration and provide a stable platform for vinyl playback.

Available with or without the Michell TecnoArm 2 tonearm, the new Gyro accommodates listeners building a complete analog system as well as those who prefer to select their own compatible tonearm.

Precision-Machined Aerospace-Grade Aluminum Chassis

The redesigned Gyro introduces a 19mm solid aluminum chassis machined from aerospace-grade tooling plate. This construction provides greater manufacturing precision and rigidity while controlling unwanted resonance.

Strategically positioned brass counterweights help balance the tonearm assembly and influence the chassis's resonance behavior. Michell also incorporates foam damping inserts around the tonearm mounting area to suppress mechanical reflections that could interfere with the stylus's ability to retrieve fine musical information.

The result is a substantial redesign beneath the Gyro's familiar appearance, with particular attention paid to the mechanical relationship between the record, platter, bearing and tonearm.

Retuned Suspension with Equilibria Damping

Michell has revised the Gyro's suspended architecture with a retuned suspension operating at a frequency of 3.5Hz.

The new design incorporates Equilibria lateral damping, engineered to control unwanted horizontal movement while preserving the suspension's ability to isolate the sensitive playback components from external vibration.

A redesigned aluminum baseplate replaces the previous acrylic Spider frame, while large Sorbothane isolation feet provide an additional layer of vibration control.

Together, these developments help create a stable mechanical environment for accurate record playback.

Redesigned Inverted Bearing

The Gyro's inverted bearing has been reengineered with a double-helix oil-pumping system designed to provide twice the lubrication flow of the previous design.

Consistent lubrication is essential to maintaining smooth platter rotation and minimizing mechanical noise. The revised bearing works alongside the turntable's suspension and chassis to support stable playback and long-term mechanical reliability.

Michell has also refined the platter with a smoother outer edge and eliminated the previous belt groove. The drive belt now self-levels during operation.

Independently Housed Motor and Electronic Speed Control

The new Gyro features a redesigned motor system housed in a substantial, freestanding enclosure. The motor is physically separate from the suspended turntable, with the drive belt providing the only mechanical connection.

This arrangement minimizes the transfer of motor vibration to the platter and tonearm assembly.

Both the motor housing and matching power supply are machined from solid billets of aerospace-grade aluminum. Their rigid construction, comprehensive grounding and shielded interconnection are designed to minimize unwanted electrical interference.

The redesigned system also incorporates electronic speed control, providing convenient operation without compromising the turntable's vibration-isolation architecture.

Precision Tonearm Mounting

The new Gyro replaces the Delrin spacers used in previous generations with a precision tonearm coupling system. Combined with the redesigned chassis and strategically positioned brass weights, this provides a carefully engineered mechanical interface between the tonearm and turntable.

The Gyro is offered in a turntable-only configuration for listeners who want to select their own compatible tonearm, or as a complete turntable and tonearm package featuring the Michell TecnoArm 2.

This flexibility makes it suitable for both new high-end analog systems and carefully planned upgrades to an existing vinyl playback setup.
