Overview
Michell Cusis E/H High-Output Moving Coil Cartridge
Product Description
The Michell Cusis E/H combines the precision and musical detail of a moving coil cartridge with the convenience of a high-output design compatible with moving magnet (MM) phono stages. Based on the acclaimed Cusis E, it features an elliptical stylus, aluminum cantilever and carefully engineered moving coil generator, making it an attractive upgrade for vinyl enthusiasts who want moving coil performance without replacing their existing MM phono preamplifier.
Delivering 2mV of output with a recommended 47kΩ load, the Cusis E/H is designed to integrate with conventional MM phono inputs. Its precision-wound copper coils, samarium-cobalt magnet and resonance-controlled construction work together to reproduce fine musical detail while maintaining the natural presentation associated with Michell's analog components.
High-Output Moving Coil Design
The defining feature of the Cusis E/H is its ability to operate with an MM phono stage while retaining a moving coil generator.
Unlike the standard Cusis E, which requires a low-output MC-compatible phono input, the E/H produces 2mV and is designed for a 47kΩ load. This makes it a practical choice for listeners who want to explore moving coil cartridges while continuing to use their existing compatible phono electronics.
Its generator incorporates a samarium-cobalt magnet and pure iron to establish a stable magnetic field. Ultra-fine, 30-micron pure copper wire is precision-wound onto a lightweight armature, with the coil configuration optimized for the cartridge's higher output.
Elliptical Stylus and Aluminum Cantilever
The Cusis E/H features an elliptical stylus designed to trace the record groove accurately and retrieve musical information across its specified 20Hz–25kHz frequency range.
An aluminum cantilever connects the stylus to the moving coil generator, transmitting the minute movements produced as the stylus follows the groove. The assembly is supported by a specially developed damper engineered to maintain consistent tracking and control unwanted movement.
With a recommended tracking force of 2.0 grams, the Cusis E/H is designed to provide reliable groove tracking when correctly installed and aligned.
Resonance-Controlled Construction
Michell builds the Cusis E/H around a substantial aluminum chassis that provides a rigid mounting platform for the generator and stylus assembly.
Its high-density acetal body is shaped to further reduce unwanted vibration and mechanical resonance. Together with the cartridge's internal damping system, these materials help prevent mechanical interference from obscuring the delicate signal generated during vinyl playback.
The result is a carefully engineered high-output MC cartridge suited to a wide range of high-performance analog systems.
