Meitner MA3i SE Silver Edition Integrated DAC & Network Streamer

Meitner MA3i SE — Silver Edition Integrated D/A Converter
 – EMM Labs & Meitner Audio

Product Description

The Meitner MA3i SE Silver Edition combines a reference-grade digital-to-analog converter, high-resolution network streamer, and precision digital volume control in a single component. Designed and manufactured in Canada, it brings Ed Meitner's proprietary digital audio technologies—developed through decades of professional recording and high-end audio engineering—into a versatile source component for demanding two-channel systems.

At its core are Meitner's next-generation MDAC2 fully discrete, dual-differential 16xDSD converters, paired with updated MDAT2 digital signal processing. The MA3i SE also incorporates VControl volume technology derived from the EMM Labs DV2i, MFAST input acquisition, and MCLK3 asynchronous clocking.

Network streaming supports Roon, TIDAL Connect, Qobuz, Spotify Connect, and local music libraries, while USB, AES/EBU, coaxial, and optical inputs accommodate external digital sources. The Silver Edition retains the MA3i's audio architecture and adds a full silver chassis machined from high-grade Canadian aluminum with a custom silver front panel.

MDAC2: Fully Discrete 16xDSD Conversion

Rather than relying on a conventional off-the-shelf DAC chip, the MA3i SE uses Meitner's proprietary MDAC2 digital-to-analog conversion architecture.

Its dual-differential, fully discrete, single-bit converters operate at 16 times the standard DSD sampling rate. Developed from technology used in EMM Labs' reference converters, this architecture gives Meitner control over the conversion process rather than relying on the internal design of a commercial DAC chipset.

The MA3i SE combines MDAC2 with updated MDAT2 digital signal processing, creating a conversion system designed to maintain low distortion, precise timing, and consistent performance across supported digital formats.

MDAT2 Digital Audio Processing

Meitner's updated MDAT2, or Meitner Digital Audio Translator, processes incoming digital audio before conversion.

The proprietary DSP performs real-time transient detection and upconversion, preparing incoming audio for the MA3i SE's 16xDSD conversion architecture. This allows the converter to use a consistent internal processing approach across different digital sources and supported file formats.

MDAT2 is part of Meitner's broader digital audio engineering platform, developed through the company's work in professional recording, DSD conversion, and reference home audio.

VControl High-Resolution Volume System

The MA3i SE incorporates the latest generation of Meitner's VControl volume technology, inherited from the EMM Labs DV2i.

VControl is engineered to maintain resolution and signal integrity as playback volume changes. This gives the MA3i SE the flexibility to connect directly to a compatible power amplifier or active speaker system, eliminating the need for a separate line-level preamplifier in suitable installations.

Balanced XLR and unbalanced RCA outputs provide connectivity for a wide range of high-performance amplifiers.

MFAST and MCLK3 Clocking

Digital timing is managed by Meitner's proprietary MFAST frequency acquisition system and MCLK3 asynchronous clock.

MFAST rapidly acquires incoming digital signals, while MCLK3 provides the precision clocking required by the conversion system. Together, they are designed to minimize the influence of source-related timing errors and reduce jitter.

The MA3i SE also features advanced input filtering and galvanic isolation for its USB and network interfaces. These systems help prevent unwanted electrical noise from connected computers, network equipment, and other digital sources from entering sensitive audio circuitry.

High-Resolution Network Streaming

The MA3i SE includes an advanced network streaming platform, allowing it to function as both a high-end DAC and a complete digital music source.

Supported streaming and playback platforms

Roon Ready

TIDAL Connect

Qobuz

Spotify Connect

Deezer

vTuner

UPnP / DLNA

NAS playback

The integrated streamer supports high-resolution PCM, DSD, and MQA playback through compatible sources. Local network music libraries can be accessed through UPnP/DLNA, while direct USB audio file playback provides an additional option for stored music collections.

For listeners building a streamlined reference system, the MA3i SE can serve as the central digital source without requiring a separate network streamer and external DAC.

Comprehensive Digital Connectivity

The MA3i SE provides five digital input types: USB Audio, AES/EBU, coaxial S/PDIF, optical TOSLINK, and Ethernet.

All five support PCM audio up to 24-bit/192kHz. USB Audio additionally supports DSD128 and DXD at 352.8kHz or 384kHz. The manufacturer also specifies full MQA decoding over USB Audio and Ethernet.

This input selection allows the MA3i SE to accommodate a dedicated music server, computer, CD transport, television's compatible digital output, or network music library while maintaining the same proprietary conversion architecture.

Silver Edition Canadian Aluminum Chassis

The MA3i SE distinguishes itself with a full silver chassis precision-machined from high-grade Canadian aluminum and a custom-designed silver front panel.

The Silver Edition retains the original MA3i's conversion, streaming, clocking, and volume-control technologies, making its defining distinction the chassis finish rather than a separate audio circuit design.

Like other EMM Labs and Meitner Audio components, the MA3i SE is designed and manufactured in Canada.
