The McIntosh XCS1.5K Center Channel Loudspeaker is engineered for one of the most demanding jobs in a home theater: reproducing the dialogue, music and on-screen action that anchor the entire front soundstage.

Designed specifically to partner with the McIntosh XRT2.1K and XRT1.1K floorstanding loudspeakers, the XCS1.5K brings the same scale, output capability and line-array thinking to the center channel.

In a reference theater, the center speaker can't simply be good enough.

It has to keep up with everything happening to its left and right.

Voiced to Match the XRT2.1K and XRT1.1K

A great front soundstage depends on tonal consistency.

As voices, effects and instruments move across the screen, the transition from left to center to right should sound seamless rather than like three different speakers taking turns.

The XCS1.5K has been voiced to match both the XRT2.1K and XRT1.1K, helping preserve the timbre of vocals and instruments as sound moves across the room.

That makes it a natural centerpiece for a truly reference-level McIntosh home theater.

A Hybrid Line-Array Design

The XCS1.5K uses a line-array concept similar to McIntosh's flagship floorstanding speakers, with the midrange and tweeter drivers positioned in an array in front of the woofer enclosure.

Because the center channel uses a shorter array, McIntosh employs a hybrid Bessel alignment to maintain broad and even sound coverage.

The driver layout may look unconventional, but there's a reason for it.

The arrangement is engineered to create a wide, uniform sound field, allowing viewers seated away from the exact center position to still hear dialogue and critical soundtrack information clearly.

That matters enormously in a real theater with multiple seats.

43 Drivers Working Together

The XCS1.5K uses a substantial driver complement designed to deliver both scale and precision.

Four 8-inch long-throw carbon-fiber sandwich-cone woofers handle the low frequencies inside the vented bass enclosure.

Above them, the line array contains 14 aluminum midrange drivers and 25 dome tweeters.

In total, that's 43 individual drivers in a single center channel loudspeaker.

McIntosh describes the design as a hybrid of both 3-way and 4-way architectures. All four woofers reproduce the lowest frequencies, while two extend farther upward before handing the signal to the midrange array.

The goal is smooth integration across the entire audible range.

Built for 1,500 Watts

The XCS1.5K is rated to handle up to 1,500 watts of amplifier power.

That's an extraordinary figure for a center channel, but it makes sense when the speaker is expected to keep pace with the XRT2.1K or XRT1.1K at reference playback levels.

Explosions, orchestral scores, vocals and sudden dynamic peaks can all demand enormous instantaneous output.

The XCS1.5K is designed to handle those moments without becoming the weak link in the system.

Clear Dialogue Beyond the Center Seat

Center channels are often judged from one ideal chair.

The XCS1.5K was engineered for something more useful.

Its driver selection, hybrid line-array architecture and crossover design work together to create broad coverage across the room.

That means viewers seated off-axis can still hear dialogue and other important soundtrack information clearly.

For a serious multi-seat theater, that's just as important as absolute output capability.

Five Adjustable Listening Angles

The XCS1.5K can be tilted within its base to one of five preset angles.

That gives the installer more control over how the speaker is aimed toward the seating area.

Whether it's positioned below a screen, above it, or integrated into a custom theater layout, the ability to adjust the vertical angle helps direct the sound where it belongs.

It's a simple feature that can make a significant difference in a large room.

A Crossover Built for Extreme Output

The XCS1.5K's crossover networks are phase matched across the low-frequency, midrange and high-frequency sections to help maintain a smooth response throughout the audible range.

McIntosh selected inductors specifically to avoid adding audible distortion, while film-type capacitors provide durability and reliability.

The components are also designed for high-current operation, and the midrange and tweeter sections include auto-resetting over-current protection devices.

For a speaker capable of handling 1,500 watts, that level of engineering is essential.

Bi-Amp, Tri-Amp and Multi-Wire Flexibility

Three sets of McIntosh Solid Cinch™ binding posts are provided on the rear panel.

Separate connections are available for the mid/high, low and subwoofer frequency sections, allowing the XCS1.5K to be bi-wired, tri-wired, bi-amplified or tri-amplified depending on the system design.

For a theater built around flagship McIntosh amplification, that flexibility opens the door to some extremely serious system configurations.

Designed as Part of the XRT Family

Visually, the XCS1.5K clearly belongs beside the XRT2.1K and XRT1.1K.

The bass enclosure receives seven layers of high-gloss piano-black paint, complemented by brushed and black aluminum accents.

The front array incorporates the classic McIntosh black-and-silver visual language and is suspended in front of the enclosure using steel supports inspired by skyscraper construction.

Magnetic covers on those supports mimic the appearance of McIntosh control knobs.

Removable magnetic grilles use black knit cloth with high-gloss trim, allowing the owner to either hide the driver array or make it part of the visual statement.
