Precision Vinyl Playback, the McIntosh Way

The McIntosh MT5 Precision Turntable/ Record Player combines precision engineering, sophisticated vibration control and unmistakable McIntosh design into a complete high-end vinyl playback system.

Rather than requiring you to select and configure every component individually, the MT5 arrives equipped with its tonearm and a Sumiko Amethyst high-output moving magnet cartridge, with critical adjustments performed at the factory.

Add the appropriate phono preamplifier, cue up a favorite record, and the MT5 is ready to show just how much music is hiding in those grooves.

And visually, there is nothing else quite like it.

The Illuminated, Magnetically Suspended Platter

The centerpiece of the MT5 is its substantial magnetically suspended platter.

The magnetic bearing system helps the platter rotate with minimal mechanical friction, while the precision belt-drive motor maintains stable and quiet operation.

But McIntosh didn't stop with the engineering.

The platter is illuminated from below with the familiar McIntosh green glow, turning the spinning record into part of the visual experience.

It's instantly recognizable across the room and makes the MT5 every bit as much a McIntosh component visually as it is sonically.

Sumiko Amethyst Cartridge Included

The MT5 comes equipped with the Sumiko Amethyst, a high-output moving magnet cartridge designed to extract exceptional detail from a record groove while remaining compatible with MM phono inputs.

Its nude line-contact diamond stylus is designed to trace complex groove information with precision, contributing to excellent transient response, clarity and low background noise.

The Amethyst is an important distinction because the MT5 isn't being sold as an incomplete turntable platform that immediately requires another cartridge purchase.

McIntosh and Sumiko have already created the combination.

Precision Tonearm, Factory Adjusted

Proper turntable setup has a major effect on performance.

Tracking force, anti-skate, cartridge alignment and tonearm height all need to work together if the cartridge is going to accurately trace the groove.

With the MT5, tracking force, anti-skate force, cartridge overhang and tonearm height are preset at the factory.

The custom tonearm also uses magnetic anti-skate and precision horizontal bearings to minimize friction as it tracks the record.

There's still some initial assembly when installing the turntable, but much of the difficult cartridge and tonearm setup has already been handled.

That means less time measuring and adjusting—and more time listening.

Designed to Keep Unwanted Energy Out of the Music

A turntable is fundamentally a vibration-reading machine.

The challenge is making sure it reads the microscopic information in the record groove rather than vibration from the motor, furniture, speakers or surrounding environment.

The MT5 uses its chassis construction, magnetic platter bearing, belt-drive system and substantial mechanical design to suppress unwanted noise, resonance and coloration.

The result is a more stable platform for the cartridge to do its job.

Belt-Drive Simplicity, High-End Execution

The MT5 uses a precision belt-drive motor system to isolate the platter from motor vibration while maintaining consistent rotational speed.

Combined with the magnetically suspended platter, the design minimizes the mechanical interaction between the drive system and the record itself.

It's a classic turntable concept executed at a much higher level of precision.

A Complete McIntosh Analog Source

The MT5 is designed to integrate naturally with McIntosh preamplifiers and dedicated phono preamplifiers, but it can also become the analog source in virtually any high-end system with an appropriate phono stage.

That's worth distinguishing from the MTI100.

The MT5 isn't an all-in-one system with amplification and Bluetooth built in. It's a dedicated high-performance turntable intended for a serious component audio system.

The focus here is vinyl.

Designed to Be Seen

The MT5 maintains the classic McIntosh aesthetic while giving it a completely different form.

The illuminated platter creates the visual centerpiece, while the chassis materials and construction serve both aesthetic and acoustic purposes.

A clear, form-fitting dust cover is included, protecting the turntable's mechanical components and cartridge when not in use.

Place an MT5 alongside McIntosh electronics with their black-glass panels, illuminated logos and blue meters and the turntable looks exactly where it belongs.

The MT5 is one of those components that gets attention before you ever play a record.

That illuminated platter is spectacular in person.

But the important part is that McIntosh hasn't sacrificed the engineering to create the visual effect. The magnetic platter bearing, belt-drive system, precision tonearm and factory-installed Sumiko Amethyst make this a serious analog source.
