Precision Starts With the Tonearm

The MT10 uses a custom tonearm built around a rigid dural-aluminum arm tube.

Rigidity is critical in a tonearm. The objective is for the cartridge stylus to respond to the microscopic variations in the record groove without unwanted movement or resonance from the arm itself influencing what you hear.

McIntosh takes the design further with an unusually sophisticated bearing system.

The tonearm is gimbaled using two sapphire horizontal bearings and two ceramic vertical bearings, chosen to provide extremely low friction as the stylus moves across the record.

The less mechanical resistance the cartridge encounters, the more freely it can perform the job it was designed to do.

Moving-Coil Cartridge Included

McIntosh equips the MT10 with a low-output moving-coil cartridge, eliminating the need to immediately begin searching for a cartridge appropriate for the turntable.

The included cartridge features an ebony body and elliptical stylus, with an output of 0.5mV.

Moving-coil cartridges are favored in many high-end analog systems for their ability to retrieve extremely fine musical information from a record groove.

Because of its 0.5mV output, the MT10 should be paired with a phono preamplifier or phono input compatible with moving-coil cartridges.

Factory Set for Proper Playback

Cartridge alignment can have an enormous impact on the performance of a turntable.

Tracking force that's too high or too low, incorrect anti-skate or improper cartridge positioning can prevent even an exceptional cartridge from performing as intended.

McIntosh handles these critical adjustments at the factory.

Tracking force, anti-skate and cartridge position are preset, giving the MT10 owner a properly configured starting point without turning initial setup into an afternoon of alignment tools and measurement.
