Eight Bands of Analog Control

At the heart of the MQ112 is an 8-band analog equalizer covering key frequencies from 25Hz to 10kHz.

Each band provides up to ±12dB of adjustment, giving you substantial control over specific areas of the frequency spectrum.

Too much bass in the room? Pull it back.

A recording sounds thin? Add some weight.

Vocals need more presence? Adjust the appropriate midrange frequencies.

Treble too aggressive? Tame it.

The MQ112 gives you the ability to make these changes precisely rather than altering the entire tonal balance of the system.

And because the EQ circuitry is entirely analog, the MQ112 can perform these adjustments while maintaining the character of a high-performance analog signal path.

It's Not Just About Fixing the Room

Room correction is only part of what makes the MQ112 useful.

Some older recordings lack bass. Others are overly bright. Certain masters sound thin, recessed or simply unbalanced compared with better recordings.

The MQ112 lets you compensate for those differences.

TILT Control for Quick Tonal Adjustments

Sometimes you don't need to adjust eight individual frequency bands.

That's where the TILT control comes in.

With up to ±6dB of adjustment, TILT changes the overall tonal balance of the system by increasing bass while reducing treble—or doing the opposite.

It's a fast and intuitive way to make a broader tonal adjustment without individually changing each EQ band.

Think of it as the difference between detailed frequency correction and simply saying:

"Give me a little more warmth."

or

"Brighten this up a bit."

Hear the Difference Instantly

McIntosh makes it easy to determine whether your adjustments are actually improving the sound.

The EQ Control lets you switch the equalizer circuitry IN or OUT of the signal path.

Make your adjustments, bypass them, and compare.

That immediate A/B comparison is important because equalization should improve the listening experience—not simply make the sound different.

The EQ can also be switched remotely using the rear-panel EQ Control Trigger, allowing compatible preamplifiers or system configurations to automatically engage or bypass the MQ112 depending on the selected input or amplifier.

Balanced and Unbalanced Connectivity

The MQ112 is designed to integrate into a wide variety of high-performance audio systems.

Both balanced XLR and unbalanced RCA inputs and outputs are provided.

Typically, the MQ112 is installed between the preamplifier and power amplifier.

You aren't required to use the same connection type on both sides, either. A preamplifier can feed the MQ112 through RCA while the MQ112 connects to the power amplifier through balanced XLR outputs, for example.

It can also be used with compatible integrated amplifiers that allow their preamplifier and power amplifier sections to be separated.

That flexibility makes the MQ112 useful in far more systems than just an all-McIntosh setup.

Dual Outputs Open Up More Possibilities

The MQ112 provides a second pair of outputs, and that's where things get even more interesting.

The additional output can be used to:

• Connect a subwoofer
• Run two subwoofers
• Bi-amplify compatible loudspeakers
• Feed another stereo system
• Create more sophisticated system configurations

The second output can also be configured for MONO operation, making it particularly useful when connecting subwoofers that don't provide stereo inputs.

This makes the MQ112 much more than a conventional graphic equalizer. It can become a useful routing and system-integration tool as well.

A Purist Approach to Equalization

Equalizers sometimes get a bad reputation in high-end audio.

The argument is that the purest signal path is always the simplest one.

There's certainly logic to that—but it assumes the room, loudspeakers, recording and listening position are already perfect.

They rarely are.

McIntosh designed the MQ112 with extremely low-noise circuitry and minimal distortion, allowing meaningful tonal adjustments without unnecessarily compromising the performance of the system surrounding it.

And when you don't want equalization?

Press OUT and bypass the EQ circuit.

You get to decide.

The MQ112 looks exactly like a McIntosh component should.

The signature black glass front panel, illuminated McIntosh logo, machined aluminum end caps and substantial rotary controls give it a classic appearance while making the eight EQ bands easy to adjust.

Rear-panel Power Control connections also allow the MQ112 to turn on and off along with other compatible McIntosh components.

It's a modern interpretation of a component that longtime audio enthusiasts will immediately recognize—but with the engineering and connectivity expected in a contemporary reference system.
