McIntosh MI347 7-Channel Digital Amplifier

Serious McIntosh Power for Home Theater

The McIntosh MI347 7-Channel Digital Amplifier is purpose-built for home theater, delivering its greatest power where a movie soundtrack demands it most.

Rather than giving every channel identical output, McIntosh designed the MI347 around the realities of a surround system. The critical front left, center, and front right channels receive up to 300 watts each, while four additional channels provide up to 200 watts each for surround or height speakers.

The result is a compact, rack-friendly amplifier capable of powering an entire seven-channel theater—or serving as the high-performance foundation of a larger Dolby Atmos or DTS:X system.

More Power Where It Matters Most

In a home theater, the front soundstage does most of the heavy lifting. Dialogue, music, and many of the soundtrack's largest effects are anchored by the left, center, and right speakers.

The MI347 dedicates significantly more output to these three channels:

Front Left, Center & Right

  • 250 Watts per channel into 8 Ohms
  • 300 Watts per channel into 4 Ohms

Four Surround/Height Channels

  • 125 Watts per channel into 8 Ohms
  • 200 Watts per channel into 4 Ohms

It's a smart approach that concentrates amplifier capability where it can have the greatest impact while still providing substantial power for the remaining channels.

Class D Efficiency Without Cooling Fans

The MI347 uses sophisticated closed-loop Class D amplification combined with robust power supplies to deliver high output from a relatively compact chassis.

Its efficiency allows McIntosh to eliminate active cooling fans. Instead, extensive ventilation across the chassis helps manage operating temperatures without introducing fan noise into the theater or equipment rack.

For a dedicated cinema—particularly one where the equipment rack is located near the listening area—keeping mechanical noise to a minimum is a meaningful advantage.

Balanced Connections for a Proper Theater Installation

Every one of the MI347's seven channels includes both balanced XLR and unbalanced RCA inputs.

That makes it a natural partner for high-performance surround processors using balanced outputs and allows longer interconnect runs between the processor and amplifier with improved resistance to induced noise.

Speaker connections use traditional McIntosh 5-way binding posts, while multi-color LEDs on the front panel provide quick confirmation of each amplifier channel's operating status.

Built to Partner With a McIntosh Processor

The MI347 can be paired with McIntosh A/V processors to create a separates-based home theater system.

A processor handles surround decoding, room correction, HDMI switching, bass management, and system control, while the MI347 concentrates on amplification.

For a seven-channel theater, a single MI347 may provide all the amplification required.

For larger Dolby Atmos or DTS:X systems, the MI347 can be supplemented with another multi-channel McIntosh amplifier. This makes it possible to start with a seven-channel configuration and expand amplification as additional surround or overhead channels are added.

Rack-Friendly by Design

At 3U high, the MI347 was designed with professional A/V racks in mind. Rack-mounting brackets are included and can be removed if the amplifier will be placed on a shelf or displayed in the room.

Its styling is deliberately more restrained than McIntosh's traditional meter-equipped power amplifiers. But it retains the brand's unmistakable black-glass front panel, illuminated McIntosh logo, and silver trim.

It's an amplifier designed to be heard more than seen.

The Grid's Take on the McIntosh MI347

The MI347 makes a lot of sense for a serious home theater because McIntosh didn't treat all seven channels as though they have identical demands.

Putting up to 300 watts into each of the front three channels gives the main soundstage the power needed for demanding movie soundtracks, while the remaining four channels still have substantial output for surrounds or overhead speakers.

We also like the flexibility it gives us when designing larger theaters. Pair the MI347 with the right McIntosh processor and it becomes the foundation of the system; additional multi-channel amplification can then be added specifically for the extra Atmos, surround, or height channels the room requires.

For customers who want McIntosh amplification in a dedicated theater without filling an equipment rack with individual power amplifiers, the MI347 is a particularly efficient solution.

At The Grid HiFi & Home Theater, we can design a complete theater around the MI347, including the processor, speakers, subwoofers, acoustic treatment, projection or video system, equipment rack, control system, and professional installation.
