The McIntosh MC1.25KW Quad Balanced Power Amplifier is what happens when the usual limitations of a stereo amplifier are taken off the table.

Each MC1.25KW is a 1,200-watt monoblock, dedicated entirely to powering a single loudspeaker. A stereo system uses a pair, giving each speaker its own enormous amplifier, power supply, Autoformer, and 1,200 watts of available output.

And thanks to McIntosh Autoformer technology, that full power is available into 2, 4, or 8 Ohms.

This is amplification built for reference loudspeakers, large rooms, and systems where running out of power simply shouldn't be part of the conversation.

1,200 Watts Into 2, 4 or 8 Ohms

The MC1.25KW produces 1,200 watts from a single channel with total harmonic distortion rated at just 0.005%.

McIntosh's output Autoformer allows the amplifier to deliver:

1,200 watts into 2 Ohms
1,200 watts into 4 Ohms
1,200 watts into 8 Ohms

That's a major advantage in a reference system. Loudspeaker impedance can vary considerably, and many large high-performance speakers present difficult loads to an amplifier.

The MC1.25KW is designed to provide its full rated output across all three of the most common speaker impedances, giving the owner considerably more freedom when choosing—or later changing—loudspeakers.

Quad Balanced Architecture

Generating 1,200 watts is impressive. Delivering it cleanly is the harder part.

The MC1.25KW uses McIntosh's Quad Balanced amplifier architecture, designed to cancel virtually all noise and distortion introduced within the amplifier circuit.

This approach contributes to the amplifier's extraordinarily low distortion while providing the enormous current and power reserves required by demanding reference loudspeakers.

With a pair of MC1.25KWs, the left and right channels are also physically separated into independent chassis. Each loudspeaker receives its own amplifier rather than sharing a power supply and internal resources with the opposite channel.

Built for Explosive Dynamics

McIntosh increased the MC1.25KW's filter capacity by 50% compared with the preceding MC1.2KW.

That additional energy storage increases dynamic headroom while improving low-frequency performance.

It's an important part of what separates an amplifier's continuous power rating from what you actually experience when listening to music.

Musical peaks can demand enormous amounts of power for very short periods. The MC1.25KW's combination of 1,200 watts of continuous output and substantial energy reserves allows it to respond to those transients without compressing the scale of the recording.

The same reserves help the amplifier maintain control over large woofers during demanding low-frequency passages.

Serious Thermal Engineering

Four massive McIntosh Monogrammed Heatsinks dominate the rear half of the amplifier.

They are connected to advanced high-current output transistors and engineered to efficiently dissipate heat while minimizing thermal equilibrium lag.

The result is passive thermal management appropriate for an amplifier capable of this level of sustained output.

McIntosh also incorporates heavier-gauge internal wiring, upgraded circuit components, an updated power transformer, and substantial ventilation into the MC1.25KW's construction.

At 158 pounds, this is an amplifier whose physical construction reflects the scale of its electrical engineering.

An 11-Inch McIntosh Watt Meter

A conventional McIntosh meter would look undersized here.

The MC1.25KW uses a massive 11-inch fast-responding blue Watt meter to display real-time amplifier output.

Direct LED backlighting provides consistent illumination and color accuracy, while the traditional black-glass front panel, illuminated McIntosh logo, aluminum end caps, substantial handles, and polished stainless steel chassis maintain the classic McIntosh aesthetic.

Glass-topped enclosures showcase the power transformer and Autoformer, with additional glasswork and aluminum detailing giving the top of the amplifier a finished appearance worthy of a component designed to remain visible.

Flexible Enough for Extreme Systems

Both balanced and unbalanced connectivity is provided, along with balanced and unbalanced outputs that can pass the signal to additional equipment.

Those outputs can be particularly useful in systems using bi-amplification or tri-amplification, where multiple amplifiers are assigned to different sections of compatible loudspeakers.

They can also feed a powered subwoofer or another audio system when additional preamplifier outputs aren't available.

McIntosh power management is included as well, allowing the amplifier to automatically shut down after a predetermined period without an input signal.
