McIntosh LCR80 Loudspeaker

Big McIntosh Sound From a Compact Loudspeaker

The McIntosh LCR80 Loudspeaker is designed to deliver a surprisingly large, spacious presentation from a compact enclosure.

Its wide-dispersion design creates an expansive soundstage across a broad listening area, while its flexible mounting options allow the LCR80 to be positioned horizontally, vertically, or on a shelf.

That versatility makes it equally compelling as a left, center, or right speaker in a McIntosh home theater or as part of a compact high-performance stereo system.

A Wide Soundstage for More Than One Seat

A great system shouldn't sound great from only one chair.

The LCR80 is engineered to project an extremely wide soundstage, helping maintain a convincing presentation across multiple seating positions.

That's particularly valuable when the LCR80 is used as a center channel. Dialogue and other center-channel information need to remain clear and properly anchored even for listeners sitting away from the exact center of the room.

For stereo applications, the same wide dispersion helps create a larger and more immersive listening window.

Horizontal or Vertical—Without the Compromise

The LCR80 was designed from the beginning to work in multiple orientations.

It can be installed horizontally, vertically, or placed on a shelf, with mounting hardware supplied for each configuration.

The key is its rotatable machined-alloy high-frequency array.

When the speaker's orientation changes, the array can be rotated to maintain the intended dispersion characteristics.

That means the LCR80 doesn't simply fit horizontally or vertically—it is engineered to perform properly in either position.

McIntosh LD/HP Woofer Technology

The LCR80 incorporates McIntosh's patented Low Distortion/High Performance (LD/HP®) woofer technology.

LD/HP is designed to reduce distortion while improving driver performance and power handling, helping the compact LCR80 produce a fuller, more dynamic presentation than its dimensions might suggest.

Combined with dual midrange drivers and a dedicated tweeter, the LCR80 is engineered to deliver the clarity, dynamics and tonal balance required for both music and movie playback.

A Natural Choice for Home Theater

The LCR in its name tells you a lot about what this speaker was designed to do.

Left. Center. Right.

A trio of LCR80s can be used across the front of a home theater, creating a consistent front soundstage using the same speaker for all three primary channels.

The LCR80 can also be combined with McIntosh XR50 and XR100 loudspeakers, which it is voiced to match.

That gives system designers flexibility to use different speaker models and orientations while maintaining a cohesive sonic character across the front of the theater.

More Than a Center-Channel Speaker

The LCR80's compact dimensions and flexible positioning also make it an interesting option for two-channel systems where space is limited.

A pair can be positioned vertically for traditional stereo listening or incorporated into cabinetry and other spaces where larger loudspeakers may not work.

For rooms where a full-size floorstanding system isn't practical, the LCR80 provides a way to maintain McIntosh sound quality in a much more manageable footprint.

Solid Cinch Speaker Connections

The LCR80 uses McIntosh's patented Solid Cinch™ speaker binding posts.

These high-quality terminals are designed to provide a secure connection between the speaker and amplifier while making speaker cable installation straightforward.

It's a small detail, but one that matters in a loudspeaker designed to become a permanent part of a high-performance audio or theater system.

Three Fine Wood Finishes

The LCR80 is available in three high-gloss wood finishes:

Black
Pear Maple
Red Walnut

Whether the speakers are prominently displayed or incorporated into a theater installation, the finishes give the LCR80 the appearance expected from a McIntosh loudspeaker.

The Grid's Take on the McIntosh LCR80

The LCR80 solves a problem we run into all the time: getting serious front-channel performance without putting three large loudspeakers across the room.

Its ability to operate horizontally or vertically makes it extremely flexible, but the rotatable high-frequency array is what really makes the design work. You're not simply turning a conventional speaker on its side and hoping for the best.

For home theater, we particularly like the idea of using three matching LCR80s for left, center and right. Using the same speaker across the front creates excellent consistency as voices, music and effects move across the screen.

And because it's voiced to work with the XR50 and XR100, there are additional options when designing a larger McIntosh speaker system.

At The Grid HiFi & Home Theater, we can design the complete system around the LCR80, including speaker placement and mounting, amplification, subwoofer integration, surround layout and final calibration.
