McIntosh DS200 Streaming DAC

High-End Streaming Without the Learning Curve

The McIntosh DS200 Streamer/ Network Player brings modern music streaming into a high-end audio system without forcing you to learn another proprietary app.

Instead, the DS200 works with the services and devices you already use. Stream directly through Qobuz Connect, Spotify Connect, TIDAL Connect, Apple AirPlay, Google Cast or Bluetooth, and control your music from the familiar apps on your phone or tablet.

Behind that simplicity is a serious McIntosh digital front end featuring a Quad Balanced 8-channel, 32-bit DAC, high-resolution playback, extensive digital connectivity and the ability to operate with either fixed or variable analog output.

It's streaming made easy—without treating sound quality as an afterthought.

Stream From the Apps You Already Use

One of the DS200's biggest advantages is what you don't need:

Another music app.

With Qobuz Connect, Spotify Connect and TIDAL Connect, you can select the DS200 directly from the respective streaming-service app and send music from the cloud to your audio system.

Your phone or tablet becomes the controller rather than the audio source itself, allowing you to browse music, change tracks and manage playback from an interface you already know.

The DS200 also supports Apple AirPlay and Google Cast, making it easy to send compatible audio directly from smartphones, tablets and computers.

Bluetooth 5.0 for Everyone Else

Sometimes you just want someone to connect and play a song.

The DS200 includes Bluetooth 5.0 with support for AAC and Qualcomm aptX HD for higher-quality compatible Bluetooth playback.

Qualcomm aptX Low Latency is also supported, reducing transmission delay when Bluetooth audio is being used with compatible video content.

It's particularly useful when friends or family want to play something without signing into your streaming system or changing your primary setup.

A Serious McIntosh DAC at Its Core

Streaming convenience is only half of the DS200 story.

Digital-to-analog conversion is handled by a next-generation Quad Balanced, 8-channel, 32-bit DAC engineered for high dynamic range and low distortion.

That's an important distinction.

The DS200 isn't simply a network streamer with an inexpensive DAC added for convenience. McIntosh has designed it to serve as a genuine high-performance digital source in a serious two-channel system.

Whether the music arrives over the network or through one of its physical digital inputs, the DS200 provides the conversion stage before sending the analog signal to your amplification.

Roon Ready

For more advanced digital music systems, the DS200 is also a Roon Ready endpoint.

That allows it to integrate directly into a Roon-based system for managing streaming services and personal music libraries through Roon's interface.

The DS200 has also received Roon Tested certification, providing additional compatibility for supported connections and configurations.

For listeners with extensive digital libraries—or multiple Roon endpoints throughout the home—that makes the DS200 considerably more than a simple streaming box.

Eight Digital Inputs

The DS200 can become the digital control center for much more than streaming.

With eight digital audio inputs, other digital sources such as disc players, transports, tuners and computers can take advantage of the DS200's internal DAC.

The USB input supports high-resolution playback up to native DSD512 and DXD 384kHz, while coaxial and optical connections support digital audio up to 24-bit/192kHz.

Instead of buying separate DACs for multiple sources, the DS200 can bring them together through one high-performance McIntosh conversion stage.

Bring Your TV Into the HiFi System

The DS200 also includes an audio-only HDMI ARC input for connection to a compatible television.

This allows your main stereo system to handle television and movie audio rather than relying on the TV's internal speakers or a soundbar.

Popular Dolby and DTS multichannel formats can be converted to two-channel audio for playback through a stereo system.

For someone who already owns a great pair of speakers and serious amplification, HDMI ARC gives that system another job to do.

Wi-Fi or Ethernet

Two Wi-Fi antennas help maintain a stable wireless network connection, while an Ethernet connection is available for installations where a hardwired network is preferred.

A dedicated Bluetooth antenna handles wireless Bluetooth connectivity separately.

The DS200 is also compatible with Google Assistant through a separate compatible Google Assistant device on the same network, adding voice-control capability when desired.

Fixed or Variable Output

In a traditional system, connect the DS200 to a preamplifier or integrated amplifier using its balanced or unbalanced analog outputs and leave the DS200 in fixed-output mode.

But there's another option.

Switch the DS200 to variable output mode and it can connect directly to a power amplifier, with the DS200 handling volume control.

For a system that uses exclusively digital sources, that can eliminate the need for a separate preamplifier.

Streamer. DAC. Digital source selector. Volume control.

Add a power amplifier and speakers and you have an exceptionally clean digital system.

Built for a Complete McIntosh System

The DS200 looks exactly like it belongs beside McIntosh amplification.

The classic black-glass front panel, illuminated McIntosh logo, rotary controls and custom-machined aluminum end caps give it the unmistakable McIntosh appearance.

Power Control and Data connections allow integration with other compatible McIntosh components, while RS232 control makes the DS200 suitable for more advanced professionally integrated systems.

A remote control is also included.

The Grid's Take on the McIntosh DS200

The DS200 is probably one of the easiest ways to add serious streaming to an existing high-end system.

What we like most is that McIntosh hasn't tried to reinvent how you find music.

If you already use Qobuz, TIDAL or Spotify, keep using the app you already know. Select the DS200 and listen through your main system.

But underneath that simplicity is a legitimate McIntosh digital front end.

The Quad Balanced DAC, DSD512 capability, Roon support and eight digital inputs mean the DS200 can replace more than just a basic streamer. It can become the digital hub for the entire system.

And variable output opens up an especially interesting configuration: DS200 → McIntosh power amplifier → speakers.

That's a remarkably simple system capable of extremely serious performance.

For someone who wants modern streaming without giving up the sound quality, construction and system integration expected from McIntosh, the DS200 makes a lot of sense.

At The Grid HiFi & Home Theater, we can help integrate the DS200 into an existing system or design a complete McIntosh streaming system around the right amplification and loudspeakers.
