MartinLogan Discrete Cinema LCR9 – Ultra-Slim 9-Driver LCR & Surround Speaker (each)

The MartinLogan Discrete Cinema LCR9 is the flagship individual loudspeaker in the Motion® Discrete Cinema Series, combining nine drivers, Gen2 Folded Motion® Tweeter technology, 93 dB sensitivity, 70Hz–25kHz response, and up to 280 watts of recommended amplifier power in an enclosure just 2.37 inches deep. It can be mounted vertically or horizontally and used as a left, center, right, or surround speaker, giving high-performance home theater systems far more flexibility than a conventional soundbar.

MartinLogan, Ltd.

Designed to visually and acoustically complement today's large-format televisions, the LCR9 measures 41.96 inches long and is MartinLogan's recommended height match for 85-inch-class displays. Used horizontally, the same speaker becomes an exceptionally slim, high-output center channel. MartinLogan

Nine-Driver Architecture

The Discrete Cinema LCR9 combines four active 4-inch Woven Fiberglass Unibody drivers, four matching 4-inch passive radiators, and one Gen2 Folded Motion Tweeter in a sealed extruded-aluminum enclosure. MartinLogan, Ltd.

This active/passive driver architecture allows MartinLogan to extract useful bass extension and substantial acoustic output from a cabinet only 4.76 inches wide and 2.37 inches deep, while maintaining the clean architectural profile the series was designed around.

Gen2 Folded Motion® Tweeter

High frequencies are reproduced by MartinLogan's 1" × 1.4" Gen2 Folded Motion Tweeter (FMT). Its folded diaphragm measures 5.25" × 1.75", creating a much larger effective radiating surface than its compact frontal dimensions suggest. MartinLogan, Ltd.

The low-mass folded diaphragm moves air by squeezing it through its folds rather than operating like a conventional dome. The result is the fast transient response and high-frequency detail associated with MartinLogan's current Motion loudspeakers, while allowing the tweeter assembly to remain exceptionally shallow.

90° × 90° Folded Motion Waveguide

The Gen2 FMT operates through MartinLogan's Folded Motion Waveguide, engineered for controlled 90° horizontal × 90° vertical dispersion. MartinLogan, Ltd.

Controlled directivity helps distribute high-frequency energy consistently throughout the intended listening area while limiting unnecessary reflections from surrounding walls, ceilings, and floors. This becomes especially valuable when the LCR9 is used in multi-speaker home theater systems where consistent coverage and timbre are critical.

Four Active + Four Passive 4" Drivers

The LCR9 uses four active and four passive 4-inch Woven Fiberglass Unibody cones. The active drivers incorporate 1.5-inch high-temperature voice coils for increased thermal capability and dynamic output. MartinLogan, Ltd.

MartinLogan uses the same woven-fiberglass cone material found in its current full-size Motion Series speakers. Its stiffness-to-mass ratio is intended to provide the controlled pistonic behavior needed for clean midrange reproduction while generating meaningful output from the LCR9's ultra-slim enclosure. MartinLogan

70Hz–25kHz Frequency Response

Despite measuring only 2.37 inches deep, the LCR9 is rated from 70Hz–25,000Hz ±3dB—30Hz deeper than the Discrete Cinema soundbar models. MartinLogan, Ltd.

That additional extension makes the LCR9 particularly versatile as an individual left, center, right, or surround channel. For full-range cinema reproduction, MartinLogan still recommends pairing the Discrete Cinema Series with one or more dedicated high-performance subwoofers, allowing the LCR9 to concentrate on the critical midbass, midrange, and high-frequency spectrum while the subwoofer system handles deep bass and LFE. MartinLogan

93dB Sensitivity & Up to 280W Amplification

The LCR9's 93 dB sensitivity at 2.83V/1m gives it substantial output capability for such a low-profile enclosure.

Nominal impedance is 4 ohms, with MartinLogan specifying compatibility with amplifiers rated for 4-, 6-, or 8-ohm loudspeakers. Recommended amplifier power is 20–280 watts. MartinLogan, Ltd.

That combination makes the LCR9 suitable for premium AV receivers while leaving enough power-handling capability to take advantage of high-current separate amplification in more ambitious home theater systems.

2.5-Way Crossover

MartinLogan employs a 2.5-way crossover architecture to manage the interaction between the Gen2 Folded Motion Tweeter and the multiple active midrange/bass drivers. MartinLogan, Ltd.

The architecture allows the driver's operating ranges to be optimized rather than asking every active woofer to reproduce an identical bandwidth—an important consideration when controlling acoustic summation and dispersion across a long, narrow multi-driver array.

Vertical or Horizontal Installation

One of the LCR9's strongest advantages is its flexibility. MartinLogan explicitly specifies it for single-channel LCR or surround applications, with either vertical or horizontal mounting. MartinLogan, Ltd.

Mounted vertically, LCR9s can flank an 85-inch display as dedicated left and right channels. A third LCR9 can be installed horizontally beneath the television as a matching center channel. The same model can also be deployed for surround duties, making it possible to build a highly consistent multichannel system around one loudspeaker architecture.

For rooms where dialogue performance is the priority but a conventional large center speaker is visually intrusive, a horizontally mounted LCR9 is particularly compelling: 41.96 inches wide, 4.76 inches high, and only 2.37 inches deep.

Acoustic Scale for 85" Displays

MartinLogan developed the Motion Discrete Cinema range around what it calls Acoustic Scale. As television sizes increase from 65 to 75 and 85 inches, MartinLogan increases driver density and output capability rather than simply stretching the cabinet. MartinLogan

The LCR9 is the flagship expression of that concept among the individual LCR models. MartinLogan describes it as the ideal height match for an 85-inch-class television, with enough acoustic capability to better match the visual scale of today's large displays. MartinLogan

Extruded-Aluminum Enclosure

The nine-driver array is housed in a rigid sealed extruded-aluminum cabinet.

Aluminum's structural strength allows MartinLogan to use thinner enclosure walls than would be practical with conventional MDF, increasing usable internal air volume while maintaining the speaker's 2.37-inch depth. The rigid structure also minimizes cabinet flex so unwanted enclosure vibration contributes less coloration to the reproduced sound. MartinLogan

Curved endcaps soften the speaker's visual profile, helping the long enclosure integrate more naturally with contemporary flat-panel displays.

Wall Mount Included

The LCR9 is designed from the outset for low-profile installation, and the wall mount is included. MartinLogan's September 25, 2026 dealer sheet confirms the LCR9 as a nine-driver low-profile LCR speaker with the wall mount supplied as standard. Motion Discrete Cinema - USR51 …

The speaker's vertical/horizontal mounting capability gives an integrator freedom to create symmetrical LCR installations without changing loudspeaker models.

Optional TV Mounting Kit

For installations where the speakers need to move with an articulating television, MartinLogan offers its Low Profile Speaker TV Mount Kit. The accessory is compatible with the LCR9, LCR7, LCR5, and all three Discrete Cinema soundbars. Motion Discrete Cinema - USR51 …

This makes it possible to attach the speaker system to the television's mounting structure rather than treating the loudspeakers and display as independent wall-mounted elements.

Tool-Free Installation

Motion Discrete Cinema speakers use a removable tool-free speaker-wire connector. Wiring can be terminated before the speaker is mounted, with tension levers securing the conductors without a screwdriver. Once terminated, the connector plugs into the rear of the speaker. MartinLogan

That detail is particularly valuable when installing multiple LCR9s close to a wall, where access to conventional binding posts would otherwise become difficult.
