Overview

MartinLogan Discrete Cinema LCR7 – Ultra-Slim 7-Driver LCR & Surround Speaker

The MartinLogan Discrete Cinema LCR7 is a low-profile, high-performance passive loudspeaker designed for left, center, right, or surround-channel use in premium home theater systems. Its seven-driver architecture combines a Gen2 Folded Motion® Tweeter, three active 4-inch Woven Fiberglass Unibody drivers, and three matching 4-inch passive radiators inside an extruded-aluminum enclosure only 2.37 inches deep.

Designed to mount vertically or horizontally, the LCR7 delivers the performance of a true externally amplified home theater speaker while maintaining the architectural profile demanded by modern flat-panel installations. MartinLogan positions the Motion Discrete Cinema Series around Acoustic Scale, increasing driver capability as display size grows rather than merely changing cabinet length. MartinLogan, Ltd.

Seven-Driver Architecture

The LCR7 uses a carefully integrated array of:

1 × Gen2 Folded Motion® Tweeter
3 × 4" Woven Fiberglass Unibody active drivers
3 × 4" matching passive radiators

This configuration provides substantially more radiating area than its ultra-slim dimensions suggest. The passive radiators reinforce low-frequency performance without requiring a conventional rear-facing port, making the design particularly well suited to close-to-wall mounting.

The LCR7 sits between the five-driver LCR5 and nine-driver LCR9, giving installers a scalable platform for different display sizes, room volumes, and output requirements. MartinLogan's current lineup confirms the LCR7 as the middle model of the three-speaker Discrete Cinema LCR range. MartinLogan, Ltd.

Gen2 Folded Motion® Tweeter

High frequencies are reproduced by MartinLogan's Gen2 Folded Motion Tweeter, bringing the company's signature folded-diaphragm technology into an exceptionally shallow architectural format.

Rather than operating like a conventional dome tweeter, its lightweight folded diaphragm moves air by squeezing it through the folds. The design combines low moving mass with a comparatively large radiating area, supporting fast transient response and detailed reproduction of dialogue, music, and cinematic effects.

Using Folded Motion technology also gives the LCR7 meaningful acoustic continuity with other current MartinLogan Motion loudspeakers—useful when combining Discrete Cinema speakers with other MartinLogan models elsewhere in a theater.

Folded Motion Waveguide

The Gen2 Folded Motion Tweeter is integrated with MartinLogan's Folded Motion Waveguide, controlling high-frequency dispersion across the listening area.

This is particularly important in a home theater speaker intended to operate in multiple orientations. Controlled dispersion helps maintain consistent tonal balance and dialogue intelligibility while reducing uncontrolled acoustic energy striking adjacent room surfaces.

Three 4" Woven Fiberglass Active Drivers

Three 4-inch Woven Fiberglass Unibody drivers handle the LCR7's midrange and midbass output.

The woven-fiberglass cone construction combines low moving mass with high rigidity, helping the drivers remain controlled during demanding soundtrack transients. MartinLogan pairs these active drivers with high-temperature voice coils to increase thermal and dynamic capability.

For a speaker only 2.37 inches deep, the use of three active drivers provides the cone area necessary for convincing output without relying on tiny full-range transducers typical of conventional television speakers and powered soundbars.

Three Matching Passive Radiators

Three additional 4-inch passive radiators complement the active drivers.

Passive radiators allow MartinLogan to enhance bass performance without the airflow noise and installation complications associated with a conventional bass-reflex port. That is particularly advantageous for an enclosure designed to sit extremely close to a wall.

The result is a seven-driver system that uses virtually the entire front baffle as functional acoustic real estate.

True LCR Flexibility

The LCR designation is literal: the same speaker can be used for left, center, or right-channel duties.

Install a pair vertically beside a television for left and right channels, then mount a third LCR7 horizontally beneath the display for a completely matched front stage. It can also serve as a surround channel when a consistent low-profile speaker architecture is desired throughout the room.

This gives the LCR7 a significant advantage over a three-channel soundbar. Each speaker is independently positioned and independently amplified, allowing greater flexibility in speaker spacing, imaging, level matching, delay, crossover settings, and room correction.

Vertical or Horizontal Mounting

The LCR7's enclosure is engineered for vertical or horizontal installation, allowing the same model to adapt to different room and television layouts.

A three-LCR7 system can therefore create a visually symmetrical front stage without mixing different center and main speaker designs. Horizontal placement is particularly useful beneath a television where cabinet height is limited, while vertical placement allows the left and right speakers to visually follow the edges of the display.

Only 2.37" Deep

One of the LCR7's defining specifications is its 2.37-inch cabinet depth.

The shallow profile allows the speaker to sit close to today's premium flat-panel televisions rather than projecting dramatically into the room. Its extruded-aluminum construction provides the structural rigidity necessary to achieve that depth without relying on a bulky MDF enclosure.

The current LCR7 measures approximately 36.96 inches long × 4.76 inches wide × 2.37 inches deep and weighs just 8 pounds.

Extruded-Aluminum Enclosure

MartinLogan uses a rigid extruded-aluminum cabinet to maximize usable internal volume while controlling enclosure resonance.

Aluminum can maintain structural strength with thinner walls than a conventional wood enclosure, which becomes especially valuable when the entire speaker is less than 2.5 inches deep. The construction contributes both to the LCR7's acoustic performance and its clean architectural appearance.

Designed for Subwoofer Integration

The Motion Discrete Cinema Series is optimized around the critical midrange and high-frequency spectrum rather than attempting to force deep infrasonic bass from an ultra-thin enclosure.

For a serious theater, the LCR7 should be integrated with one or more appropriately sized subwoofers. That allows the LCR7 to concentrate on dialogue, imaging, midbass attack, soundtrack dynamics, and high-frequency detail, while dedicated subwoofers handle deep bass and LFE.

This architecture is especially useful in systems employing multiple subwoofers, Anthem ARC, Dirac, Trinnov, StormAudio, or other advanced bass-management and room-correction platforms.

Wall Mount Included

The low-profile wall mount is included, reinforcing that the LCR7 is designed as an architectural speaker rather than a conventional bookshelf model.

MartinLogan's September 25, 2026 dealer sheet identifies the LCR7 as a seven-driver low-profile LCR speaker with wall mount included. Motion Discrete Cinema - USR51 …

Optional TV Mount Kit

MartinLogan's Low Profile Speaker TV Mount Kit can also be used with the LCR7. The accessory supports the LCR9, LCR7, LCR5, Soundbar 85, Soundbar 75, and Soundbar 65. Motion Discrete Cinema - USR51 …

This becomes particularly useful with articulating television mounts. Rather than leaving the speaker fixed to the wall while the screen moves, the speaker can be integrated with the display's mounting structure.

Tool-Free Connections & Cable Management

Motion Discrete Cinema was developed with custom installation in mind. Removable tool-free speaker connectors allow wiring to be terminated before the speaker is placed on the wall, simplifying installation when rear clearance is minimal.

Integrated cable-management provisions further help maintain the clean appearance expected from a system designed around an ultra-thin television.
