Overview
MartinLogan Discrete Cinema LCR5 – Ultra-Slim 5-Driver LCR & Surround Speaker
The MartinLogan Discrete Cinema LCR5 is an ultra-slim passive home theater speaker designed to serve as a left, center, right, or surround channel while projecting only 2.37 inches from the wall. Its five-driver architecture combines a Gen2 Folded Motion® Tweeter, two active 4-inch Woven Fiberglass Unibody drivers, and two matching passive radiators in a rigid sealed aluminum cabinet. MartinLogan, Ltd.
With 70Hz–25kHz ±3dB response, 93dB sensitivity, 4-ohm impedance, and 20–140 watts recommended amplifier power, the LCR5 delivers genuine externally amplified home theater performance in a form factor designed to visually complement modern flat-panel displays. It can be installed vertically or horizontally, giving system designers considerable freedom in both front-stage and surround applications. MartinLogan, Ltd.
Five-Driver Architecture
The Discrete Cinema LCR5 combines two active 4-inch Woven Fiberglass Unibody cones, two matching 4-inch passive radiators, and one Gen2 Folded Motion Tweeter. The active drivers use 1.5-inch high-temperature voice coils to support the output and dynamic demands of movie soundtracks. MartinLogan, Ltd.
The passive radiators extend the useful low-frequency performance of the extremely shallow sealed cabinet without requiring a conventional port. This is particularly advantageous for a speaker intended to operate almost flush against a wall.
Gen2 Folded Motion® Tweeter
High frequencies are reproduced by a 1" × 1.4" Gen2 Folded Motion Tweeter (FMT) with a 5.25" × 1.75" diaphragm. MartinLogan, Ltd.
Instead of moving forward and backward like a conventional dome, the folded low-mass diaphragm squeezes air through its folds. The architecture provides a comparatively large radiating area from a compact assembly, helping the LCR5 deliver the speed, detail, and transient precision associated with MartinLogan's Motion Series without increasing cabinet depth.
Folded Motion Waveguide
The Gen2 FMT operates through MartinLogan's Folded Motion Waveguide, producing a controlled 90° horizontal × 90° vertical dispersion pattern. MartinLogan, Ltd.
Controlled dispersion is especially valuable in home theater because it helps maintain consistent high-frequency coverage across the listening area while reducing unnecessary acoustic energy outside the intended listening window.
Woven Fiberglass Unibody Drivers
The two active 4-inch drivers use MartinLogan's Woven Fiberglass Unibody cone construction. Fiberglass combines low moving mass with high rigidity, helping the cones resist deformation during demanding passages while maintaining clean midrange reproduction.
Because the same core driver technology is used throughout the Motion Discrete Cinema range, the LCR5 can be combined with larger LCR7, LCR9, or Discrete Cinema soundbar models while maintaining a closely related sonic character.
70Hz–25kHz Frequency Response
Despite its 2.37-inch depth, MartinLogan rates the LCR5 from 70Hz to 25,000Hz ±3dB. MartinLogan, Ltd.
That 70Hz extension gives the LCR5 considerably more flexibility than an ultra-thin speaker designed strictly for dialogue. In a properly configured theater, bass management can hand the deepest frequencies to one or more dedicated subwoofers while the LCR5 concentrates on the midbass, vocal range, effects, and high-frequency information that determine front-stage clarity and imaging.
93dB Sensitivity
Sensitivity is rated at a strong 93dB/2.83V/m, allowing the LCR5 to generate substantial output without requiring unusually high amplifier power. MartinLogan recommends 20–140 watts and specifies a 4-ohm nominal impedance, with compatibility for amplifiers rated to drive 4-, 6-, or 8-ohm loudspeakers. MartinLogan, Ltd.
This makes the LCR5 practical with a capable AV receiver while still allowing a system to benefit from dedicated external amplification.
2.5-Way Crossover
The LCR5 employs a 2.5-way crossover architecture rather than treating both active midrange/bass drivers identically across their entire operating range. MartinLogan, Ltd.
This allows MartinLogan to optimize the acoustic interaction among the drivers and tweeter for smoother integration and controlled dispersion within the speaker's unusually narrow enclosure.
Left, Center, Right or Surround
The LCR5 is specified as a single-channel LCR or surround speaker and can be mounted either horizontally or vertically. MartinLogan, Ltd.
That flexibility opens several system configurations. Three LCR5s can form a completely matched front soundstage, with vertical speakers beside the television and a horizontal center beneath it. The same model can also be used around the room as surrounds for greater timbral consistency.
Unlike a three-channel soundbar, separate LCR5 speakers also allow the left and right channels to be positioned farther apart. In rooms where space permits, that can create a wider front soundstage and more precise stereo imaging.
Only 2.37 Inches Deep
The LCR5 measures just 31.92" × 4.76" × 2.37" when mounted vertically and 4.76" × 31.92" × 2.37" horizontally. Weight is only 7 lb / 3.2 kg. MartinLogan, Ltd.
That makes the LCR5 particularly attractive for premium television installations where conventional bookshelf or floorstanding speakers would extend substantially farther into the room than the display.
Sealed Aluminum Cabinet
MartinLogan houses the five-driver array in a sealed aluminum enclosure. MartinLogan, Ltd.
The rigid construction is fundamental to the LCR5's extremely shallow architecture: aluminum provides structural strength while allowing the cabinet to remain narrow and visually discreet. Combined with passive radiators rather than a conventional port, the speaker is purpose-built for close-to-wall placement.
Motion® Discrete Cinema Acoustic Scale
The broader Motion Discrete Cinema Series is built around MartinLogan's Acoustic Scale concept. As screen size and system requirements increase, MartinLogan increases driver density and acoustic capability instead of merely making the enclosure longer. MartinLogan, Ltd.
The LCR5 is the most compact individual LCR model in that scalable family, followed by the seven-driver LCR7 and nine-driver LCR9. This gives a system designer the ability to select speaker size according to display dimensions, room size, listening distance, desired output, and available wall space rather than changing to an unrelated speaker family.
Wall Mount Included
The LCR5 is designed specifically for low-profile installation and includes its wall-mounting hardware. MartinLogan's September 25, 2026 dealer documentation identifies the LCR5 as a five-driver low-profile LCR speaker with wall mount included. Motion Discrete Cinema - USR51 …
Its vertical/horizontal orientation makes the same mounting concept usable for main-channel, center-channel, or surround applications.
Optional TV Mount Kit
MartinLogan also offers a Low Profile Speaker TV Mount Kit compatible with the LCR5, LCR7, LCR9, Soundbar 65, Soundbar 75, and Soundbar 85. Motion Discrete Cinema - USR51 …
This is especially useful with an articulating television mount, allowing the speaker to remain physically aligned with the display rather than staying fixed against the wall as the television moves.
