Luxman's Flagship Digital Source

The Luxman D-10X is the company's flagship SACD/CD player and reference digital source, combining a heavily reinforced LxDTM-i disc transport, dual-mono ROHM MUS-IC BD34301EKV DACs, high-resolution USB playback, MQA decoding, and Luxman's fully balanced ODNF-u analog output stage in one substantial component.

This isn't simply a premium disc player.

The D-10X is designed to serve as the digital centerpiece of a reference two-channel system. It plays SACD, CD, CD-R, CD-RW and MQA-CD, while its USB, coaxial and optical digital inputs allow external digital sources to take advantage of the same flagship DAC and analog circuitry.

USB playback extends all the way to 32-bit/768kHz PCM and DSD512, making the D-10X equally relevant to someone with thousands of physical discs and someone building a modern high-resolution digital library.

LxDTM-i: A Transport Built Around Mechanical Stability

Disc playback starts with extracting information from the disc as accurately and consistently as possible.

Luxman developed the LxDTM-i — Luxman original Disc Transport Mechanism-improved specifically to address vibration and resonance at the mechanical level.

The transport is enclosed by massive 8mm-thick aluminum side walls extending toward the front and rear panels, combined with a 5mm-thick steel top plate. The mounting structure integrates the drive with the surrounding side frame to create an exceptionally rigid mechanical foundation.

Why put this much engineering into a disc transport?

Because even in a digital system, the physical mechanism responsible for reading the disc matters. Luxman isn't relying on a generic optical drive installed inside an expensive enclosure—the transport itself is a fundamental part of the D-10X.

For anyone with a serious SACD or CD collection, that's a major reason to consider a dedicated reference player.

Dual-Mono ROHM MUS-IC DACs

Digital-to-analog conversion is handled by two ROHM MUS-IC BD34301EKV DAC chips, with one converter operating in monaural mode for each channel.

The D-10X was the first product to employ this ROHM converter when it debuted.

Using independent DACs for the left and right channels gives Luxman the foundation for a true dual-mono conversion architecture and feeds the D-10X's fully balanced analog output circuitry.

Resolution through USB extends to:

PCM: up to 768kHz / 32-bit
DSD: up to 22.4MHz / 1-bit

Coaxial and optical inputs accept PCM signals up to:

192kHz / 24-bit

ODNF-u Fully Balanced Analog Output Stage

Once the digital information has been converted, the quality of the analog stage becomes critical.

Luxman developed ODNF-u — Only Distortion Negative Feedback-ultimate for the D-10X.

The circuit uses a fully balanced configuration designed to improve error detection and reduce distortion while preserving the natural waveform of the original signal.

Luxman also avoids relying on a conventional independent output filter. Instead, filtering is incorporated through gradual first-order processing within the analog circuitry.

That approach helps keep the analog signal path streamlined after conversion.

It's an important distinction because a great DAC chip doesn't guarantee a great digital source. What happens after conversion is just as important as the converter itself.

High-Resolution USB DAC

Connect a compatible computer or music server through USB and the D-10X becomes a reference standalone DAC.

44.1 / 48 / 88.2 / 96 / 176.4 / 192 / 352.8 / 384 / 705.6 / 768kHz

at resolutions up to 32-bit.

Native DSD support extends through:

2.8 / 5.6 / 11.2 / 22.4MHz

That means the D-10X can handle everything from conventional CD-resolution files to extremely high-resolution PCM and DSD512.

USB also supports Bulk Pet transfer modes, giving compatible computer-based systems additional options for managing processor load during USB audio transmission.

Digital Inputs Turn the D-10X Into a System Hub

MQA and MQA-CD Playback

The D-10X incorporates MQA decoding for compatible material.

It can play MQA-CDs directly and process compatible MQA audio received through USB, optical and coaxial inputs.

A three-color front-panel indicator displays decoding status:

Blue — Studio
Green — Authentic
Magenta — Renderer

Regardless of how much MQA content you currently own, the important point is format flexibility. Luxman designed the D-10X to accommodate a broad range of physical and file-based digital sources.

A Serious Power Supply for Digital and Analog Circuits

Luxman increased the D-10X's transformer capacity by 27% compared with its previous flagship digital player.

Independent regulator circuitry supplies the various internal sections, while large filter capacitors provide stable power reserves.

That's important in a component containing a precision mechanical transport, digital processing, USB interface, DAC circuitry, clocks and sensitive analog output stages inside the same chassis.

The objective is to prevent one section's electrical demands from unnecessarily influencing another.

100μm Copper Circuit Boards

Luxman pays unusual attention to something most customers will never see: the printed circuit boards.

The D-10X uses 100μm-thick copper foil, gold-plated connections and removal of the conventional solder-mask coating from critical signal areas.

Circuit traces use Luxman's characteristic smoothly curved routing rather than sharp angular turns.

This reflects the same philosophy seen throughout Luxman's reference amplifiers—the signal path matters all the way down to the physical layout of the board.

Balanced XLR and Unbalanced RCA Outputs

The D-10X provides both:

Unbalanced RCA analog outputs

Rated output for both is 2.4V, with output impedance specified at:

RCA: 300Ω
XLR: 600Ω

Luxman uses rugged Neutrik XLR connectors for balanced output and premium gold-plated RCA terminals constructed from an alloy selected to combine conductivity with mechanical durability.

Balanced output phase can also be inverted when necessary to accommodate the XLR convention used by the downstream component.

That makes the D-10X a natural partner for a C-10X/M-10X separates system or the flagship L-509Z integrated amplifier.

4X Zoom Display

A reference component shouldn't require you to walk across the room just to see what's playing.

Luxman's 4X Zoom Display enlarges playback information on the fluorescent front-panel display, making it easier to read from the listening position.

The supplied RD-29 aluminum remote control provides transport functions, track selection and display control without leaving the listening chair.

It's a small feature compared with the DAC or analog circuitry, but exactly the kind of detail that matters once you actually live with a component.

A 49-Pound Digital Source

At 22.4kg—approximately 49.4 pounds—the D-10X weighs more than many integrated amplifiers.

That mass comes from the reinforced transport assembly, substantial chassis, power supply, shielding and mechanical construction required to support the digital and analog circuitry.

Luxman also uses density-gradient cast-iron isolation feet to provide a stable foundation and help dissipate vibration transmitted through the equipment rack.

The chassis employs a composite loop-less structure designed to protect the sensitive analog circuitry from changes in ground impedance, magnetic fields and digital noise.

That's not really what it is.
