Overview
JVC DLA-RS1200 Reference Series Native 4K Laser Projector
The JVC DLA-RS1200 brings JVC's Reference Series native 4K projection technology to dedicated home theaters and professionally designed private cinemas.
Built around three native 4K D-ILA imaging devices, the RS1200 combines a 2,000-lumen BLU-Escent laser, 40,000:1 native contrast, Gen2 Frame Adapt HDR and a newly designed 80mm fully motorized lens in a compact chassis.
For someone building a dedicated theater who wants the black levels, contrast and natural cinematic image JVC is known for, the RS1200 is an excellent entry point into the Reference Series.
True Native 4K D-ILA
The RS1200 uses three 0.69-inch native 4K D-ILA devices with a true native resolution of:
4096 × 2160
There is no pixel shifting required to create its 4K image.
JVC's latest-generation D-ILA devices improve pixel flatness and alignment while maintaining the high native contrast that makes this technology so well suited to dedicated theater environments.
40,000:1 Native Contrast
The RS1200 delivers:
40,000:1 native contrast
JVC's dynamic laser control can further adjust light output according to the image and completely shut down the laser during a full-black frame for an Infinity:1 dynamic contrast ratio.
But native contrast is what really matters during actual movie scenes.
Better black levels give an image depth and dimensionality. Dark scenes retain detail rather than appearing gray, while brighter objects have greater impact against a genuinely dark background.
2,000-Lumen BLU-Escent Laser
The RS1200 uses JVC's BLU-Escent laser light source to produce up to:
2,000 lumens
Expected laser life is approximately:
20,000 hours
Light output can be adjusted across 101 individual steps, allowing the projector to be precisely matched to screen size, screen gain and the desired brightness of the theater.
Gen2 Frame Adapt HDR
JVC's Gen2 Frame Adapt HDR is one of the RS1200's most important features.
The system analyzes HDR10 material scene-by-scene or frame-by-frame and dynamically adjusts tone mapping around the projector's available dynamic range.
The RS1200 also uses both DML and MaxCLL metadata when determining HDR levels.
Rather than applying one fixed HDR curve to an entire movie, Frame Adapt HDR continually optimizes the image as the content changes.
Deep Black Tone Control
JVC's Deep Black Tone Control works alongside Frame Adapt HDR to improve reproduction of the darkest portions of HDR images.
It helps preserve subtle gradation and shadow detail while taking advantage of the RS1200's native D-ILA contrast.
The result is more convincing night scenes, dark interiors and other challenging material containing both deep shadows and bright highlights.
HDR10, HDR10+ & HLG
The RS1200 supports today's major HDR formats, including:
- HDR10
- HDR10+
- HLG
- Gen2 Frame Adapt HDR
- Deep Black Tone Control
HDR10+ provides dynamic scene-specific metadata, while JVC's proprietary Frame Adapt HDR provides dynamic tone mapping for conventional HDR10 content.
Newly Designed 80mm 4K Lens
The RS1200 uses a newly designed 80mm large-aperture 4K lens constructed from:
- 15 lens elements
- 11 groups
- 1.6× motorized zoom
The optical system is designed to maintain the resolution of the native 4K D-ILA devices across the entire projected image.
Fully Motorized Lens
The RS1200 provides fully motorized:
- Focus
- Zoom
- Lens Shift
Lens shift reaches:
- ±70% Vertical
- ±28% Horizontal
Throw ratio is:
1.34–2.14:1 for 16:9
This gives a professional theater designer considerable flexibility when determining projector placement.
Lens Memory & CinemaScope
The RS1200 can store five different installation modes.
Stored settings can include lens control, pixel adjustment, masking, anamorphic configuration, screen adjustment, installation style, keystone and aspect ratio.
This is particularly useful in a theater using a 2.35:1 or 2.39:1 CinemaScope screen, where separate configurations can be stored for widescreen movies and conventional 16:9 programming.
The RS1200 also provides four anamorphic modes for systems using an external anamorphic lens.
Vivid Picture Mode
JVC includes a dedicated Vivid picture mode for SDR content.
It's designed to provide brighter, richer colors for animation and other SDR programming where a more dynamic presentation may be preferred.
Filmmaker Mode
The RS1200 also includes Filmmaker Mode, allowing viewers to minimize unnecessary processing and maintain a presentation closer to the filmmaker's original intent.
Professional Calibration
The RS1200 is ISFccc certified and supports JVC's Auto Calibration system.
Professional calibration can optimize:
- Color balance
- Gamma
- Color space
- Color tracking
- Screen characteristics
A 6-axis Color Management System provides individual adjustment of red, green, blue, cyan, magenta and yellow.
This level of adjustment allows the projector to be calibrated around the actual screen, room and sources being used.
HDMI Connectivity
The RS1200 provides:
- 2 HDMI inputs
- 32Gbps data rate
- 4K/60p input support
- HDCP 2.3
This provides the connectivity needed for modern UHD Blu-ray players, media servers, streaming devices and AV processors.
Professional Home Automation Integration
The RS1200 is designed to become part of a professionally integrated private cinema.
JVC supports integration with systems including:
- Control4
- RTI
- Josh.ai
The projector also provides LAN/IP connectivity and Control4 SDDP support.
That means lighting, shades, audio, video and projector operation can all be integrated into a single theater experience.
Compact New Chassis
JVC redesigned the optical unit, lens and circuit board for this generation.
The result is a chassis approximately 35% smaller than the previous RS2100/NZ7 generation, while still incorporating a native 4K three-chip D-ILA system and BLU-Escent laser light source.
Heat exhaust has also been moved to the rear, improving installation flexibility.
