JVC DLA-NZ700 Native 4K Laser Home Theater Projector

The JVC DLA-NZ700 is a native 4K laser projector built for serious home cinema.

It combines JVC's third-generation native 4K D-ILA imaging devices, an 80,000:1 native contrast ratio, 2,300-lumen BLU-Escent laser light source, newly designed 80mm motorized lens and JVC's excellent Gen2 Frame Adapt HDR processing in a significantly more compact chassis.

For a dedicated theater or high-performance media room where black level, contrast and HDR performance matter just as much as brightness, the NZ700 is an impressive projector.

True Native 4K D-ILA

The NZ700 uses three of JVC's third-generation 0.69-inch native 4K D-ILA devices.

Native resolution is a full:

4096 × 2160

There is no pixel shifting required to create the 4K image.

JVC's latest D-ILA devices also improve pixel flatness and device alignment, contributing to better black-level performance, uniformity and overall image quality.

80,000:1 Native Contrast

This is where JVC continues to separate itself from many competing projector technologies.

The DLA-NZ700 achieves a native contrast ratio of 80,000:1.

Native contrast is especially important in a properly designed theater because it determines how much separation the projector can produce between dark and bright portions of the image without relying entirely on dynamic light modulation.

Deep blacks give the picture dimensionality.

Dark scenes retain detail instead of turning gray, while brighter objects have more visual impact against a genuinely dark background.

2,300-Lumen BLU-Escent Laser

The NZ700 uses JVC's latest BLU-Escent laser light source, producing up to:

2,300 lumens

The laser has an expected operating life of approximately 20,000 hours.

Light output can also be adjusted across 101 individual steps, giving a professional installer considerably more control when matching the projector to screen size, screen gain, room conditions and desired image brightness.

Gen2 Frame Adapt HDR

HDR can be challenging for projection because movies are mastered for displays capable of brightness levels that a projector simply cannot reproduce.

JVC addresses this with Frame Adapt HDR.

The second-generation system analyzes HDR10 content on a scene-by-scene or frame-by-frame basis and dynamically adjusts tone mapping to make better use of the projector's available dynamic range.

The NZ700 also uses both DML and MaxCLL metadata when determining HDR levels.

The result is HDR that is better adapted to projection instead of simply applying a fixed tone curve to an entire movie.

Deep Black Tone Control

JVC adds Deep Black Tone Control to its Frame Adapt HDR processing.

The system further controls the darkest portions of HDR images, helping preserve black level and shadow gradation in difficult scenes.

Night scenes, dark interiors and movies containing extreme combinations of bright highlights and deep shadows particularly benefit from this approach.

HDR10, HDR10+ & HLG

The NZ700 supports the major HDR formats used in today's video systems:

HDR10+ provides dynamic metadata on a scene-by-scene basis, while JVC's own Frame Adapt HDR processing provides dynamic tone mapping for conventional HDR10 content.

Newly Designed 80mm 4K Lens

Resolution at the imaging device doesn't mean much if the lens can't resolve it onto the screen.

JVC developed a new 80mm large-aperture 4K lens for the NZ700 using:

The lens is designed to maintain native 4K resolution and image quality across the screen rather than simply producing a sharp image in the center.

Lens Memory for CinemaScope Screens

The NZ700 can store five installation modes.

That is particularly useful in theaters using a 2.35:1, 2.39:1 or similar CinemaScope screen.

Different lens positions can be stored for widescreen movies and conventional 16:9 material, allowing the projector to automatically recall the appropriate zoom, focus and lens-shift settings.

The NZ700 also supports anamorphic modes for systems using an external anamorphic lens.

Wide DCI-P3 Color

A built-in Cinema Filter allows the NZ700 to reproduce a wide color gamut equivalent to the DCI-P3 standard used for digital cinema.

That gives properly mastered UHD content access to a much wider range of colors than conventional Rec.709 HD video.

The projector also provides a 6-axis Color Management System for precise adjustment of red, green, blue, cyan, magenta and yellow.

Filmmaker Mode

The NZ700 includes Filmmaker Mode, designed to preserve the creative intent of filmmakers by minimizing processing that can alter the original presentation.

For a properly calibrated theater, this gives viewers another way to experience movies closer to how they were intended to look.

JVC Auto Calibration

The NZ700 supports JVC's Auto Calibration system.

With the appropriate optical sensor and JVC software, calibration can address:

• Color balance
• Gamma
• Color space
• Color tracking

This helps maintain projector performance as the installation and optical system change over time.

ISF Calibration Controls

The NZ700 is ISFccc certified, providing professional calibration controls that allow a trained dealer or calibrator to optimize the projector for the actual screen, room and video sources being used.

That's important because a projector shouldn't really be considered separately from the room.

Screen material, screen size, throw distance, room reflectivity and ambient light all affect the final picture.
