JVC DLA-RS2200 Reference Series Native 4K Laser Projector

The JVC DLA-RS2200 brings JVC's Reference Series performance to dedicated home theaters and professionally designed private cinemas in a significantly more compact chassis.

It combines third-generation native 4K D-ILA imaging, a 2,300-lumen BLU-Escent laser, an impressive 80,000:1 native contrast ratio, Gen2 Frame Adapt HDR and a newly designed 80mm fully motorized lens.

For a serious theater where black level, contrast and HDR performance matter more than simply chasing maximum brightness, the RS2200 is an excellent projector.

True Native 4K D-ILA

The RS2200 uses three third-generation 0.69-inch native 4K D-ILA devices with a true native resolution of:

4096 × 2160

There's no pixel shifting required to create the 4K image.

JVC's latest D-ILA devices improve pixel flatness and alignment while delivering better black-level performance and more uniform brightness across the screen.

80,000:1 Native Contrast

One of the biggest reasons to choose JVC for a dedicated theater is native contrast.

The RS2200 delivers:

80,000:1 native contrast

JVC's dynamic laser control can further adjust light output according to the image and completely shut down the laser during a full-black frame for an Infinity:1 dynamic contrast ratio.

But it's the native contrast during actual movie scenes that really matters.

Deep blacks give the picture greater depth, preserve subtle shadow detail and allow bright highlights to stand out against genuinely dark portions of the image.

2,300-Lumen BLU-Escent Laser

The RS2200 uses JVC's latest BLU-Escent laser light source to produce up to:

2,300 lumens

Expected laser life is approximately:

20,000 hours

Laser output can be adjusted across 101 individual steps, allowing the projector to be precisely matched to screen size, screen gain and the target brightness of the theater.

Gen2 Frame Adapt HDR

HDR is one of the most difficult things for a projector to reproduce properly.

JVC's Gen2 Frame Adapt HDR analyzes HDR10 material scene-by-scene or frame-by-frame and dynamically adjusts tone mapping around the projector's available dynamic range.

The RS2200 also uses both DML and MaxCLL metadata when determining HDR levels.

Instead of applying one fixed HDR curve to an entire movie, the projector continually adapts its processing to what's actually happening on screen.

Deep Black Tone Control

JVC's Deep Black Tone Control works with Frame Adapt HDR to improve reproduction of the darkest portions of HDR images.

This helps maintain realistic blacks while preserving gradation and shadow detail in challenging scenes such as night landscapes, dark interiors and space sequences.

HDR10, HDR10+ & HLG

The RS2200 supports the major HDR formats used in today's premium video systems:

  • HDR10
  • HDR10+
  • HLG
  • Gen2 Frame Adapt HDR
  • Deep Black Tone Control

HDR10+ provides dynamic scene-specific metadata, while JVC's proprietary Frame Adapt HDR processing provides dynamic tone mapping for conventional HDR10 content.

DCI-P3 Wide Color Gamut

The RS2200 incorporates JVC's Cinema Filter to reproduce a wide color gamut equivalent to the DCI-P3 digital cinema standard.

This allows UHD HDR material to reproduce a broader range of colors than conventional Rec.709 HD content.

A 6-axis Color Management System provides individual adjustment of red, green, blue, cyan, magenta and yellow.

Newly Designed 80mm 4K Lens

JVC equips the RS2200 with a newly designed 80mm large-aperture 4K lens constructed from:

  • 15 lens elements
  • 11 groups
  • 1.6× motorized zoom

The optical system is designed to maintain the resolution of the native 4K D-ILA devices across the entire projected image.

Fully Motorized Lens

The RS2200 provides fully motorized:

  • Focus
  • Zoom
  • Lens Shift

Lens shift reaches:

  • ±70% Vertical
  • ±28% Horizontal

Throw ratio is:

1.34–2.14:1 for 16:9

That gives a professional theater designer considerable flexibility when determining projector placement.

Lens Memory & CinemaScope

The RS2200 can store five different installation modes.

Settings can include lens position, pixel adjustment, masking, anamorphic configuration, screen adjustment, installation style, keystone and aspect ratio.

This makes the RS2200 particularly useful in theaters built around a 2.35:1 or 2.39:1 CinemaScope screen, where different configurations can be stored for widescreen movies and conventional 16:9 material.

The projector also supports anamorphic modes for systems using an external anamorphic lens.

Vivid Picture Mode

JVC's Vivid picture mode is designed for SDR material where a brighter, more colorful presentation is desirable.

It's particularly useful for animation, sports and other content where the goal isn't necessarily the same presentation used for critical movie viewing.

Filmmaker Mode

The RS2200 also includes Filmmaker Mode, giving viewers the ability to minimize unnecessary processing and preserve a presentation closer to the creator's original intent.

Professional Calibration

The RS2200 is ISFccc certified and supports JVC's Auto Calibration system.

Professional calibration can optimize:

  • Color balance
  • Gamma
  • Color space
  • Color tracking
  • Screen characteristics

The projector's extensive calibration controls allow a trained dealer or calibrator to optimize the image around the actual screen, room and video sources being used.

HDMI Connectivity

The RS2200 provides:

  • 2 HDMI inputs
  • 32Gbps data rate
  • 4K/60p input
  • HDCP 2.3

This provides the connectivity required for modern UHD Blu-ray players, media servers, streaming devices and AV processors.

Professional Home Automation Integration

The RS2200 is designed to integrate into a complete private cinema.

JVC supports home automation platforms including:

  • Control4
  • RTI
  • Josh.ai

The projector also provides LAN/IP connectivity and Control4 SDDP support.

This allows the projector to become part of a complete theater sequence where lighting, shades, audio, video and room controls operate together.

Compact New Chassis

JVC completely redesigned the optical unit, lens and circuit board for this generation.

The result is a chassis approximately 35% smaller than the previous RS2100/NZ7 generation, despite retaining native 4K D-ILA imaging and a laser light source.

Heat exhaust has also been relocated to the rear, helping improve installation flexibility.

RS2200 or RS1200?

Both models give you JVC's native 4K D-ILA platform, BLU-Escent laser, Gen2 Frame Adapt HDR, fully motorized 80mm lens and compact chassis.

The RS2200 makes two significant performance jumps:

Brightness: 2,300 vs. 2,000 lumens
Native Contrast: 80,000:1 vs. 40,000:1

The RS2200 also adds DCI-P3 wide color gamut capability, making it the stronger choice for a higher-performance HDR theater.

RS2200 or NZ700?

The RS2200 and NZ700 are essentially counterparts within JVC's current lineup.

Both share the same fundamental performance platform:

  • 2,300 lumens
  • 80,000:1 native contrast
  • Native 4K D-ILA
  • 80mm motorized lens
  • Gen2 Frame Adapt HDR
  • DCI-P3 wide color gamut
  • Five installation memories
  • 4K/60 input

The RS2200 belongs to JVC's Reference Series, making it particularly appropriate for dealer-designed and professionally installed private cinema systems.
