JTR Captivator RS1 | 18" 2400W Sealed Subwoofer

The JTR Captivator RS1 is a compact, extreme-performance sealed subwoofer designed for serious home theaters and high-performance audio systems. Combining an 18-inch high-excursion driver with 36 mm of Xmax, a built-in 2400-watt RMS DSP-optimized Class D amplifier and a heavily braced Baltic Birch enclosure, the RS1 delivers tremendous low-frequency capability from a remarkably compact cabinet.

Unlike JTR's ported Captivator models, the RS1 uses a sealed enclosure engineered to take advantage of room gain for exceptionally deep bass extension. JTR rates its outdoor response at 22 Hz to 600 Hz ±3 dB and notes that in-room performance can extend into sub-10 Hz frequencies depending on the room and installation.

18-Inch High-Excursion Driver

At the heart of the Captivator RS1 is JTR's 18-inch driver with 36 mm of Xmax, providing the substantial displacement required for high-output low-frequency reproduction.

The current driver incorporates a redesigned motor structure with more than a pound of aluminum within the motor and less than 1 mH of inductance. JTR states that the design provides approximately 30% lower distortion than its previous reference drivers, along with increased output and additional low-frequency capability.

For perspective, JTR notes that a 21-inch driver would require approximately 26 mm of Xmax to equal the displacement of its 18-inch driver with 36 mm of excursion.

2400-Watt RMS DSP Amplifier

The Captivator RS1 is powered by an integrated 2400-watt RMS Class D amplifier capable of operating at up to 95% efficiency.

DSP is optimized specifically for the RS1's driver and sealed enclosure, helping achieve smooth frequency response, high output and minimal distortion.

JTR's current DSP platform also incorporates automatic input selection, advanced automatic turn-on and a lower noise floor, making the RS1 easier to integrate into sophisticated home theater systems.

Sealed Design With Exceptional In-Room Extension

The RS1's sealed enclosure provides a fundamentally different approach from JTR's large ported Captivator models.

JTR specifically designed the RS1 for single-digit in-room frequency reproduction when room gain and placement conditions allow. Its outdoor response is rated at:

22 Hz – 600 Hz ±3 dB

Inside a listening room, natural low-frequency reinforcement can substantially extend the effective response below the outdoor measurement.

This makes the RS1 particularly attractive for installations where extremely deep bass is desired but the physical size of a large ultra-low-tuned ported enclosure isn't practical.

One of the Captivator RS1's most compelling attributes is its physical size.

the RS1 packages an 18-inch 36 mm Xmax driver and 2400 watts RMS of amplification into a cabinet that can be considerably easier to position than JTR's larger Captivator models.

Its relatively shallow 18-inch depth is especially useful for dedicated theaters, behind-screen installations and sophisticated multi-subwoofer layouts.

The Captivator RS1 provides both RCA and balanced XLR connectivity, making it compatible with a wide range of AV processors, preamplifiers and professional-grade theater electronics.

Baltic Birch Construction

JTR constructs the Captivator RS1 from 18 mm, 13-ply void-free Baltic Birch plywood rather than conventional MDF.

The cabinet is heavily braced to withstand the considerable mechanical forces generated by its high-excursion 18-inch driver while minimizing unwanted enclosure movement.

A Matte Black Paint finish and magnetically attached grille complete the purpose-built design.

Ideal for Multi-Subwoofer Home Theaters

The combination of a sealed enclosure, compact footprint and substantial output makes the RS1 an especially interesting choice for multi-subwoofer home theater systems.

Using multiple strategically positioned subwoofers can provide additional output and headroom while helping achieve more consistent low-frequency response across multiple seating positions when combined with proper DSP and calibration.

The RS1's 21" × 21" footprint and 18-inch depth make these installations considerably easier to execute than they would be with multiple large ported subwoofers.
