The JTR Captivator 4000TL is an extreme-output, ultra-low-frequency powered subwoofer engineered for reference home theaters and listening rooms where deep bass extension, massive dynamic capability and low distortion are non-negotiable. Combining dual high-excursion 18-inch drivers, a built-in 4000-watt RMS DSP-controlled Class D amplifier and a huge bass-reflex enclosure tuned to 10 Hz, the Captivator 4000TL is built to reproduce the lowest octaves with extraordinary authority.

With a rated frequency response extending down to 10.5 Hz ±3 dB, the 4000TL reaches well below the audible bass range and into frequencies that are experienced as much physically as they are heard.

Dual High-Excursion 18-Inch Drivers

The Captivator 4000TL uses two purpose-built 18-inch drivers with 36 mm of Xmax. JTR's current-generation drivers feature redesigned motor structures, more than a pound of aluminum within each driver's motor and less than 1 mH of inductance.

JTR states that these drivers deliver approximately 30% lower distortion than its previous reference drivers, allowing the 4000TL to combine enormous displacement capability with the control required for demanding music and cinema reproduction.

Both drivers are completely front-firing, providing greater flexibility when positioning this exceptionally large subwoofer within a dedicated theater or listening room.

Built-In 4000-Watt RMS Amplifier

Driving the dual 18-inch system is an integrated 4000-watt RMS Class D amplifier operating at up to 95% efficiency.

The amplifier incorporates DSP specifically optimized for the Captivator's drivers, enclosure and port system. Current-generation DSP adds automatic input selection, improved automatic turn-on functionality and a lower noise floor.

Both balanced XLR and unbalanced RCA inputs are provided, along with a 12-volt trigger for integration with sophisticated theater and control systems.

Bass-Reflex Enclosure Tuned to 10 Hz

The Captivator 4000TL isn't designed simply to produce more conventional bass. Its massive bass-reflex enclosure is tuned to 10 Hz, allowing meaningful output at frequencies substantially below what most traditional subwoofers can reproduce.

A large slot port is engineered to minimize turbulence and compression under extreme output conditions. Combined with the enormous displacement capability of the dual 18-inch drivers and 4000-watt amplifier, the system is designed for exceptionally high output without sacrificing ultra-low-frequency extension.

10.5 Hz Low-Frequency Extension

JTR specifies the Captivator 4000TL at:

10.5 Hz – 125 Hz ±3 dB

That extension makes the 4000TL particularly suited to reference home cinema, where modern soundtracks can contain extremely deep low-frequency effects that conventional subwoofers may not fully reproduce.

The 4000TL also includes JTR's LF Adjust, allowing response to be optimized for different environments, including smaller rooms and outdoor applications.

Baltic Birch Construction

A subwoofer capable of this level of output requires an exceptionally rigid enclosure.

JTR constructs the Captivator 4000TL from 18 mm, 13-ply void-free Baltic Birch plywood rather than conventional MDF. The enclosure is heavily braced to resist unwanted cabinet movement when the dual 18-inch drivers are operating at high excursion.

The cabinet is finished in Matte Black Paint and includes a magnetically attached grille.

Built for Reference Home Theater

At 58 inches tall and 265 pounds before palletization, the Captivator 4000TL is a serious piece of low-frequency hardware.

It is particularly well suited to large dedicated theaters, reference media rooms and systems where high playback levels and genuine infrasonic extension are required. Multiple Captivators can also be incorporated into professionally designed multi-subwoofer systems to improve bass consistency across multiple seating positions.
