The Focal Trio6 is a French-made, three-way active studio monitor designed for professional recording, mixing and mastering. Combining an 8-inch W-cone bass driver, a 5-inch W-cone midrange driver and a pure Beryllium inverted-dome tweeter, it delivers the clarity, dynamic range and low-frequency extension required for critical listening.

Its defining feature is Dual Focus Mode, which provides three distinct monitoring configurations within a single loudspeaker. Engineers can switch between full-range three-way operation, a two-way midrange-and-tweeter configuration and a single-driver midrange mode to evaluate how their mixes translate across different playback systems.

With 250 watts of dedicated amplification, bass extension to 35Hz and a maximum output of 115dB SPL, the Trio6 combines substantial monitoring capability with the flexibility needed in professional control rooms.

Three Monitoring Configurations in One Speaker

Dual Focus Mode allows engineers to evaluate a recording through three different speaker configurations without changing monitors.

The different configurations can be selected using a compatible footswitch, allowing quick comparisons during a recording or mixing session.

Focal W-Cone Bass and Midrange Drivers

The Trio6 features an 8-inch W-cone bass driver and a dedicated 5-inch W-cone midrange driver.

Focal's composite sandwich-cone construction uses a foam core between two layers of glass fiber. This combination is designed to balance rigidity, low mass and internal damping, helping the drivers reproduce complex musical passages with minimal unwanted coloration.

The bass driver provides the low-frequency extension needed to evaluate kick drums, bass guitars, synthesizers and other demanding recordings. The separate midrange driver handles critical vocal and instrumental frequencies, preserving clarity when working with dense arrangements.

Focal's Tuned Mass Damper (TMD) suspension technology further controls unwanted movement in the midrange driver's suspension, reducing resonance and supporting accurate reproduction through the vocal range.

Pure Beryllium Inverted-Dome Tweeter

A pure Beryllium inverted-dome tweeter provides the Trio6's high-frequency reproduction.

Beryllium combines exceptional rigidity with low mass, allowing the tweeter to reproduce subtle transients and fine musical detail across an extended frequency range. Focal's inverted-dome geometry and optimized baffle are designed to control dispersion and maintain consistent high-frequency reproduction across the listening area.

For engineers and producers, this resolution helps reveal subtle changes in equalization, vocal sibilance, percussion, reverberation and stereo imaging.

In its full three-way configuration, the Trio6 delivers a specified frequency response extending to 40kHz.

250 Watts of Dedicated Amplification

Each Trio6 incorporates three amplifier channels, providing independent power for its bass, midrange and high-frequency drivers.

The bass and midrange drivers each receive 100 watts of Class G amplification, while a dedicated 50-watt Class AB amplifier powers the Beryllium tweeter.

This configuration provides a combined 250 watts RMS of amplification and supports a maximum sound pressure level of 115dB at one meter.

The separate amplifier stages are designed to deliver the headroom and control required for professional monitoring, particularly when evaluating demanding musical passages and recordings with a wide dynamic range.

Flexible Horizontal or Vertical Placement

The Trio6 incorporates a rotatable aluminum mounting plate for its midrange driver and tweeter.

This assembly can be rotated in 90-degree increments, allowing the speaker to be installed vertically or horizontally while maintaining the appropriate driver orientation. It also provides flexibility when positioning the bass driver toward the inside or outside of a stereo pair.

This design is particularly useful in professional studios where mixing consoles, computer displays and equipment racks impose restrictions on monitor placement.

The reinforced MDF cabinet features internal bracing and a large laminar bass-reflex port designed to limit cabinet vibration and airflow noise.

Acoustic Controls and Professional Connectivity

The Trio6 includes a balanced XLR input with a 10kΩ input impedance, providing connectivity with professional monitor controllers, audio interfaces and mixing consoles.

A selectable high-pass filter offers full-range, 45Hz, 60Hz and 90Hz settings, allowing the monitor to be configured for different room conditions or integration with a compatible studio subwoofer.

Additional controls include low-frequency shelving, high-frequency shelving and a dedicated low-midrange adjustment centered at 160Hz. The latter is particularly useful for managing tonal changes associated with reflections from large mixing consoles and other nearby surfaces.

A switchable automatic standby function and front-panel status indicators complete the monitor's professional control features.
