The Focal Solo6 is a two-way active studio monitor designed for professional recording, mixing, mastering and immersive audio production. Part of Focal's ST6 range, it combines a 6.5-inch W-cone woofer, a pure Beryllium inverted-dome tweeter and 130 watts of dedicated amplification in a compact enclosure engineered for critical listening.

Its defining feature is Focal's Focus Mode, which transforms the Solo6 into a single-driver monitor at the touch of an optional footswitch. This gives engineers two distinct monitoring perspectives from one loudspeaker, allowing them to evaluate full-range detail and check how their mixes translate to smaller playback systems without changing speakers.

With frequency response extending from 40Hz to 40kHz, adjustable acoustic controls and integrated mounting provisions, the Solo6 is equally suited to dedicated stereo control rooms and professional immersive audio installations.

Two Monitoring Perspectives with Focus Mode

The Solo6 incorporates Focal's switchable Focus Mode, allowing engineers to alternate between conventional two-way monitoring and a single-driver configuration.

In standard operation, the W-cone woofer and Beryllium tweeter work together to deliver the Solo6's full frequency range of 40Hz to 40kHz.

Engaging Focus Mode switches off the tweeter and uses the woofer alone, producing a frequency response of 110Hz to 10kHz. This provides a different listening perspective for checking vocal placement, midrange balance and the translation of a mix to smaller speakers.

Focus Mode can be activated using a compatible external footswitch. It reduces the need for a separate set of reference monitors, helping conserve space on crowded studio workstations.

W-Cone Woofer with TMD Suspension

The Solo6 features a 6.5-inch composite W-cone woofer, incorporating Focal's sandwich-cone construction.

The diaphragm consists of a structural foam core positioned between two layers of glass fiber. This construction balances rigidity, low mass and damping, helping the driver reproduce bass and midrange information with controlled distortion.

Focal also incorporates Tuned Mass Damper (TMD) suspension technology, which uses precisely positioned weights to control unwanted movement in the driver's suspension. According to Focal, this technology reduces distortion in the 1kHz to 3kHz region by 50%.

For recording and mixing engineers, the combination is designed to preserve the clarity of vocals, acoustic instruments and complex arrangements.

Pure Beryllium Inverted-Dome Tweeter

The Solo6 incorporates a pure Beryllium inverted-dome tweeter, one of Focal's signature high-frequency technologies.

Beryllium combines low mass with exceptional rigidity, making it well suited to reproducing fast transients and subtle musical detail. Focal's inverted-dome design and optimized tweeter baffle help control dispersion and maintain consistent high-frequency reproduction across the listening position.

The tweeter's extended bandwidth contributes to the Solo6's specified upper-frequency response of 40kHz, allowing engineers to evaluate subtle changes in equalization, percussion, reverberation and stereo imaging.

130 Watts of Dedicated Amplification

The Solo6 incorporates separate amplifier stages for its low-frequency and high-frequency drivers.

An 80-watt Class G amplifier powers the W-cone woofer, while a dedicated 50-watt Class AB amplifier drives the Beryllium tweeter. This bi-amplified configuration delivers a combined 130 watts RMS.

With a maximum SPL of 110dB at one meter, the Solo6 provides the dynamic capability required for professional nearfield monitoring while retaining the compact dimensions needed for smaller control rooms.

Acoustic Controls for Precise Studio Integration

The Solo6 provides rear-panel controls that allow its response to be adjusted for the listening environment.

A selectable high-pass filter offers full-range, 45Hz, 60Hz and 90Hz settings, making it possible to tailor the monitor's low-frequency output or integrate it with a compatible studio subwoofer.

Low-frequency and high-frequency shelving adjustments provide additional control over tonal balance. A dedicated low-midrange equalizer centered at 160Hz helps compensate for reflections caused by mixing consoles, desktops and other nearby surfaces.

These adjustments make the Solo6 suitable for studios where monitor placement, room dimensions and acoustic treatment vary considerably.

Designed for Stereo and Immersive Audio Studios

The Solo6's compact enclosure makes it suitable for professional nearfield monitoring, while integrated mounting inserts support compatible wall and ceiling mounting hardware.

These installation options are particularly useful when building Dolby Atmos and Sony 360 Reality Audio monitoring systems, where additional speakers may need to be positioned above or around the listening area.

A large front-facing laminar port supports controlled bass reproduction, while the reinforced MDF cabinet is designed to minimize unwanted enclosure vibration.

The Solo6 also includes a defeatable automatic standby function for installations where continuous operation is required.
